Cig lighter socket
Cig lighter socket
Hey, anyone know where to get the cig lighter outlet for the 90 and newer camaro? It doesnt look common. Mine has always been missing. I have the lighter, but no socket. it looks like a different style than the usual. Any help appreciated.

Re: Cig lighter socket
I think the socket is standard - pic one up at autozone/advance and test fit it in the dash - they'll take it back if it doesn't fit.
The yellow print lighter is the rare part of it, but they usually turn up on eBay.

You should be able to remove the yellow print lighter by unscrewing the handle part, and then rescrew it onto the element that comes with the new lighter.

On the subject of cigarette lighters....
Can someone tell me how to remove the old one to replace it with a new one? I have an 89 Camaro RS.. if that makes a difference.. my lighter hasn't worked since I bought the car.. and would like to replace it.
Thanks ahead of time

Re: Cig lighter socket
How about taking a used element and socket that work? Then screwing the yellow handle into that?
I don't have anything from a '90 or newer, but I do have some of the older stuff I can compare it to.
Re: Cig lighter socket
The outer part of the back side unscrews. Make sure it's unplugged before you start because you'll probably need to stick your thumb inside to hold the main part in place. It's more likely the lighter itself or the fuse, there not much there for it to break. You can also check it with a volt meter before removing it.

pull the plastic dash part off that it's attached to, then reach in behind and pull the electrical plug off the lighter, then you can stick your thumb in it safely and hold the inside of the lighter while you unscrew the outside of the lighter from the backside of the trim.

Re: Cig lighter socket
Well, it looks like a standard Camaro socket with the only difference being the handle. Which is good in that it shouldn't be hard to find a replacement, but you might need to go to a junkyard if they don't sell them new anymore. I've attached a few pics of the lighter and socket so you'll know what to look for.
