Nice car. Love the rear tires, they look mean. Did you have to buy special rims or do any mods to fit those tires in there?

Thank you:
yes i had to take 1/4" off the back of the lower part of the calipers.
just the finned lower part...and carri 9" with strange axles & locker
4.11 bolted right in. and wheels slipped right on..
weld drag lites 15x9 with MT ET streets 29x12.5 x15 strip
weld drag lite 15x10 w/295.50r15 for the street
(stay away from the swiss tires, they weather chap in 4 to 6 years, even coverd)
welds 3.5x15 165r15 fronts
you always have 6 matching rims with a street car..LOL

Re: BOMZ racing seats...anybody try them??

At first I was going to say those seats look like the are only for looks because they look like they have zero lateral support. Then I saw the picture of your car and figured turning is that last thing on your mind. lol

They look fine. I have black Corbeau Forza seats in my car. There isn't a lot of padding, but the are fine for ~1 hour of driving. After that I have to resituate myself in the seat so I'm comfy again. This is in a fixed back seat too, and it isn't that I can handle it just because I'm a young kid. My dad doesn't have any issue with them either. Earlier this year we made the trip to Car Craft Summer Nationals which was a 6+ hour drive. We only made a few stops for gas otherwise we were sitting in the seats the whole time. I also don't have a very forgiving suspension... You'll probably like them. Just expect to make a custom seat mount.

Re: BOMZ racing seats...anybody try them??

thanks for the reply.
they do hold you in on the sides. but yet should feed good to sit in. you can set the back to what way you like unlike most of the other seats race seats sold for this price..this set will recline all the way.(sweet)
they tell me they have sliders that will bolt up to my rails..(dumping the Power seat)
and going with just a reg camero set of brackets.. with the cross bar they will not recline anyway..I just dont want to see the OEM seats get trashed..lol i picked the car up back in 1992. it still smells new..this is just one more thing i always wanted to get for the Car.. just did not want to spend $1500 on seats.been . Ya know, i have done that before. recaro seats.. over the years. i like to try diff makes.

Re: BOMZ racing seats...anybody try them??

Yeah I know what you mean. The seats in my car were MINT so I started looking for a real racing seat since I was really getting into the autocross scene. I was lucky and found my Corbeau seats, sliders and brackets for ~$140 (can't remember exactly). The mounts were made for a C3 corvette so I had to modify them. Since I'm tall they went under extensive modifications and they are practically bolted to the floor now. With a helmet on I just barely fit.

There is probably an 85% chance the sliders won't bolt to the rails. I don't know if you have ever taken your seats out, but the floor studs that the seat mount bolts to aren't inline with each other like most cars. On the drivers side, the back mounts are moved in towards the middle of the car by ~1.5"-2" inches and it is the reverse for the passenger side. So, I guess they might work, but you will be sliding into either the door or the center counsel and you will be given a nice view of the A-pillar.

How much are they asking for the pair?

Re: BOMZ racing seats...anybody try them??

To give you an idea of how little padding is in my seats... both the back and bottom of the seat have maybe 3/8" of dense foam. Then there is a thin sheet of plastic, and then the metal springs/elastic bands. For the back of the seat, there is another layer of the thin foam to give it a smooth look so the springs and what not aren't visible.there is probably 3/8"-1/2" of dense foam around the outer endge of the seat where the frame of the seat is, and there is ~1" of the dense foam padding where your thighs would rest. Yeah, doesn't sound like much does it? The seats are made and offered by Corbeau as a RACE seat. They aren't meant to be used in a daily driver like I'm using them. The only reason they are comfortable is because they cradle/hug my body so well.

Re: BOMZ racing seats...anybody try them??

What?? Just a teaser pic? Dude, get them in the car! lol

If you have access to a welder and feel comfortable welding something that will hold you in during a crash, just make your own like I did. It will probably take the same amount of time as it would to go to the junkyard and pull one out and drive back. You would probably also save money by making your own, and since you're into drag racing... the weight savings will be an added bonus.

Is it just me or do those should harness slots look really narrow as in close together?

Re: BOMZ racing seats...anybody try them??

they also came with spacers and bolts. to set up the sliders..
and was told they would bolt to the seat brackets in my car..

as for the Holes for the belts.some seats have 1 hole some have 2... just as long as they are there.. so the Belts can come in and over My sholder's..thats why they slant on the sides.. so the belts lay right..when you have them on.
i will try to use factry brackets.. so i can use the screw caps it's all about going fast and Looking good when you DO it...LOL

Re: BOMZ racing seats...anybody try them??

I'll look at my seats later today and see if the slots look any different.

Is it just my lack of sleep, or am I seeing a handgun and two magazines on your couch by the seats? You must really like those seats if you have a handgun out to protect them. lol

Here is a link to where I talked about the seat mounts I made along with many pictures. https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/inte...ng-racing.html

Re: BOMZ racing seats...anybody try them??

I took a look at my seats before I left for school and there is a good 4.5"-5" between the openings for the shoulder harnesses. I don't know for sure because I only had my fingers to measure with at the time, but that's about what it is.

I hope that isn't aluminum... I wouldn't trust aluminum to hold you, me, or anyone in. You do realize that weight multiplies during a crash right? For example, a 200 pound person in a crash that exerts 70g's will now be the equivalent of ~15,000 pounds. Granted a 70'g crash is going from 168mph to zero in just a second or two, but even so, that is a lot of force to trust a piece of aluminum with. Just food for thought.

Re: BOMZ racing seats...anybody try them??

NOTE: GM's power seat inside rails are made from aluminum alot thinner then this.
this is My forged aluminum adapter plate.

Note: if your over 6' you will not need this rail.. just bolt seats the factry GM rails.

see how it's going to slide in ontop of the facty rails.
I may arch it also..if i do i will have to make it 1/2" longer on hole location.. no biggy..

this is the bottom of the New Seats. will use counter sunk Screw's to bolt them Up.

so now we know with Bomb Racing seats all you need is this Simple Braket. and you can Use your facty rails..will finnish this off with more photos as soon as My 2nd set of rails shows up..

That's what I did with my apc seat. It'll work, but it sits a bit higher. Which is fine for me since I'm short.

Re: BOMZ racing seats...anybody try them??

EDIT: yes it did work. and it did sit way to High for anybody 6' and over. so this rail was taken off.
and the factry GM rails bolted right to the New seats.

OK..the proto type rails..when you have buddys who work on Jet AirCraft.
titainaum & aluminum come easy..
got the first set of plate's made to install the facty Camero Rails onto my Ricky Race seats.. this seat has a lower seat (in the Midle) by 1". this plate holds the new Seat 1/2 inch Higher then the stock seat..so it's brakes even...sides are also 2" taller the the factry seat's

this is the back of the pasgr seat..(slid all the way forward) so the back of the seat is at it's tallest point.. (factry rail caps will also be used)
sliding the seat back drops it down to just 1 3/4".

will install in the car and take some true to life photos..
the new seats are also 2 1/2 inch taller in front Sorta over stuffed it with the Memory stuff..

this is a shot of the front.. the cardboard at the bottom shows at what point the front seat slider will sit..the front of the seat is taller by 2" and sits 3/4 taller..and the factry bracket Caps will also be used..

after all fitting is done. i will install one last time.. with out spacers.

will have to bolt it in this morning..and see how it feels..and fits..

for the opening. it's just for the belts to come over..
your shoulders..some have 1 hole.. some have 2.. some dont have any..
some wide some not so wide..No Biggy. take a look at some Hi end seats.
they make them with all the above..

and when you shoulder belts are Hooked to a cross bar and the back of the seat has the support from the crass bar..all is good..

and with the rail made from SS or titainam (spelling) it's a bit better the then floor pan it's bolted to..even my mach up rails are stronger then the Seat Brackets they are bolted to.
REMEMBER.. it's only and strong as it's weakest LINK!.. don't use washer's Get some 1. Piece Spacers...see photos.

driver side mech slider should be to me end of nexed week.. i can then remove the power seat mech off the driver seat and install the mach up rails i have set aside..hope it's the same set up.. then if so.. run out to the Base.. MECH THEM OUT. check fit..and install..

could not have set the facty sliders any deeper into the new seats.. it'a a hard flat bottom.
unlike the chevy seat's stamped out of steel and left with a gap in the Middle. to let the slider fit into..thats how it ended up getting 1/2" boost..

Re: BOMZ racing seats...anybody try them??

Looks good. I have corbeau forzas on my factory power rails and they are extremely comfortable. I dont mind them at all, i think they have plenty of padding but its a stiffer feeling seat not like a 4th gen fbody seat or something like that. Support is good all around.

Those seats sorta look like the corbeau CR1's, but most racing seats have this look. Looks like they will be comfortable. Just hope they dont sit up too tall in the car. Your a tall man, i'm only 5'9" on a good day and i dont have much room above me for head room with my corbeaus on factory rails

Assuming you are referring to my pictures in the thread I linked, I do plan on getting rid of the washers. Actually, I plan on getting rid of all the spacers. I'm going to weld up new seat mounts this winter so the seat will be in the same position, but the front cross brace will be higher. Every time I look at those I don't like how it is. With the spacers there, it places the nut so far from the bolt head that it is a weaker connection.

Cool seats Man, Nice install too! I'd like to see pics with them in the car when you get their. I'm kind of pondering on what seats i want in my car. This thread is gonna come in handy for anyone who installs these seats later on.

Re: BOMZ racing seats...anybody try them??

Just a quick question, guys....How much do your seats, the Bomz and the Corbeau's weigh???? I'm being very weight conscious on my '82 and was going to fab up my own aluminum seats....but if I could find some seats that nice that were light.........at my age, I could use the comfort!!!!!!

Thanks.

Re: BOMZ racing seats...anybody try them??

According to Corbeaus website, the seats I have weigh 19lbs. Then again, I have an older version of what they are selling now so who knows what they weigh.

This is a very crude way to give you an idea of the weight difference, but when I went to pick up the drivers seat with the power track, I had to use both hands and a little muscle to move it. With the corbeau seat and tracks, I could pick both of them up (one in each hand) and walk across the garage, down the driveway and to my car without them ever feeling heavy. I would like to think I saved well over 50lbs by doing both seats, but like I said, I never weighed anything so I don't know for sure.

Thanks Geek...Still too heavy for me, guess I'll stick with the aluminum and get the upholstery shop to use Hi-density padding.... That and build another 50 horse in the engine so it'll be a quicker trip!!!!!!

Re: BOMZ racing seats...anybody try them??

if you go to Corbeaus website. they might tell you what it is.this set of seat recline all the way.
not just a hard shell.

taking out the stock seats and the driver Power seat. i shaved off another 30lbs off the car..
this set of seats, with the GM sliders is less then 22lbs ea and fully recline. so you can set the seat back any place you would like..sorta factry like.

i like the inside to Look as good as the out side and be fast...
nothing a 427sbc at 11.5.1 and a mech roller cat fix..

nothing like a 10sec car with power locks window's
lilt and cruse.

Amen! haha car looks great! seats do match the interior well. My corbeaus didnt match flame red carpet at ALL!! So I just did black with custom door panels to make it work.

And the corbeaus are light, 22 lbs or so which are much lighter than factory, but the power seat rails is the heavy part. I kept it so my overal weight reduction was probly only 30 lbs or so

100 lbs. is 1/10 of a second.... I'm just not the kind of guy who spends $$$$ on horsepressure, then gives it away on extra weight!!!! When I want to ride in comfort I take the Bonneville, when I want to go racing I take something else.....

whos adding weight?.. we are adding cool seats to 10/11 sec street cars.
if we wanted to strip the cars down to a tin box. that you can't drive anytime you like..whats the Fun in that...?

try adding all the goodys into a Race Car..NO FUN

Now. take a street car. and turn it into a Race Car.
WITH ALL THE GOODYS that's the fun part..and remember.. it's got to look good.
it Must Look good.. i would not even drive it if it had primer on it..lol...i save the dents for my truck.

I didn't say that YOU were adding weight to your car....I said I was going to stick to my original plan for MY car and build aluminum seats.... As far as what looks good and what doesn't, that's just a matter of personal choice....

How light are your aluminum seats? I cant imagine them being too much lighter than good aftermarket race style fixed back bucket like the Forza's. +/- 10lbs isnt gonna make a difference at the track Most of those aluminum seats look soo uncomfortable.

It depends on how I make them, what thickness of material I use, and whether they are a tube framed seat, or just aluminum with a few stiffeners... Making an aluminum seat comfortable requires the right foam and a good upholstery shop.... But, it's still the best way I know of to get exactly the size, style, and design of seat that I want....

Re: BOMZ racing seats...anybody try them??

OK. driver seat is in.. this was what I had to do..

. orderd set of seat rails used.. good shape..
1st set of rail adapters i made to install the after market seats.
on none power GM brakets.
bolted right in.. worked just fine.. but im 6'4" 290lbs
and the brakets made the seat to tall for me..

the factry GM None power DRIVER set. of rail brakets have a 2" lift in the front
and the standard 2 3/4 rear brakets..

this is what i did.. i used Pasngr side seat rails.. they sit flush in the front.
I removed the rear leg brakets. and installed new rear brakets only 3/4" High.. By doing this i dropped the front 2" and the rear 2"
now it fits just fine with room for the helmet..
had to take the reails apart..by drilling out rivets to remove rear brakets.
the dimples they use on the top to keep the rails together.. by doing this i can take the rails all aprt... so i can bolt the new 3/4" tall rear brakets to the rails.. and install on the factry seat studs..

fits like a Glove..

will remove 1 more time.. refinnish rails and seat handle in Black Gun Cote.
then reinstall..with caps..

thats the factry carpet from 92.

Name: Z28157.jpg
Views: 2781
Size: 60.5 KB

see how tall the pasngr seat still is. look at space at rollbar .will do it in the AM. to drop it 2 more inches in back and 1 more inch in front..

Name: Z28159.jpg
Views: 2832
Size: 58.3 KB

this was done without welding.. all done with power drill. hack saw.. drimle tool. and cam.. to see outcome.. with ea mod.. if i was 5' 9" tall it would have been fine... but im not so..

I have had the top of the line seats before. and have never liked the rails they sell.. if your under 6'1 they mighht fit ok, but at 6'4" i need more head room. the seats are bolted to factry GM seat rails.. works Fantastic!!

Re: BOMZ racing seats...anybody try them??

driver seat sits 1" lower for me.. (im 6'4" tall) pasgr seat sits. 1" lower then stock.. but the seat is 1" taller then stock.. so it came out even..

5 point belt / right side folds over into consl box..(like it was made for it)

1. the seats are made, fit and feel, like other seats i have had in other hot rods and costing alot more..$800+ the locks and rails are rock solid and feel good. they use copper hooks under the seats on the cloth. dubble stiching, and snug fit all the way arownd.
Better then GM Did.
the springs in the seat look to be powder coat.. but could be just paint. (not just steel)
the bolts holding the seat to the rails are 3/8 x4 and go in over 1" the rail is alum.
for a set of seats at $350 shipped. i would say they have a winner.
the big thing is going to be driving with the seats.. and see how they hold up..

2.In the end. the seats are alot lighter then the GM seats.

3.the base of the seat is taller then the GM seat. so if your 6' and over you will want to bolt the seat right to Gm Brakets.and use pasgr side seat rails on both sides.for driver and pasgr seat.
4. if your taller then 6'2" you will want to drop the seat down in back with shorter rail legs.(a easy fix)

5. will update when have given them a work out. but at this point..they pass.

Re: BOMZ racing seats...anybody try them??

picked up some in fantastic shape, Black arm rest to add more black to the inside.
to go better with the red and black seats.
was told they came from a 92 camaro.. but they are from before 90's
camaro.... will try them out..

also a link to a bit more info on the driver side install
and how to mod the GM rail if your going to just bolt the seats to them.
https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/inte...l-sliders.html

if a mod could take the 2 post, and run them as one, that would be fantastic!

Re: BOMZ racing seats...anybody try them??

i have the exact same seats! same color and all...luckily i got mine off craigslist brand spanking new for $200. i like your method, i did mine a little different but it all came out good and i like them. great support in the turns (i dont have to hang on to my shifter **** anymore in a hard turn!)

did you take em out for a test yet?
