Leaky t-top quick fix?

It poured last night, and I found out that my t-tops leak pretty good. I originally thought it was the hatch that was leaking. It all ends up in the back seat, and it soaked a good part of the headliner. I plan on replacing the weather stripping, but can't really do it right now. For the time being, I threw a blanket over the back seat to soak up any drips, but I need to do something better than that. Is there anything I can buy or do to temporarily stop the leaks? This is going to sound really stupid, but I was going to buy a Shamwow and stuff it up in between the headliner and the roof to catch some of the rain before it hits the interior. It's not bad, and I've seen worse, but it's still a bit annoying. It'd be less of an issue if my landlord would clean the garage out that I'm renting from him so I can use it. Grrr!

I'm wondering the same thing. I have two Formulas that have leaky t-tops and I don't want to drop $200 on the weatherstripping right now.

If I got some black caulk, I wonder if that would fix it and not look like garbage?

A search may help find some solutions to your questions.

Sometimes the area where rear hatch bolts attach can leak as well. The best way to find a leak is by using a hose from different angles to locate where it's leaking and then try to take care of it from there.

I would not caulk it. If i where you i would fix it right if your going to fix it at all. Dont feel so bad i have brand new t-top seals and mine still leaks alittle. But i dont care cause my car dont see rain, not even a rain drop so i dont plan on fixing it anytime soon.

Re: Leaky t-top quick fix?

Yea a search will help you more here...I am willing to bet it's not the seals. If it is, you know there is some adjustment to the latch part on the t-tops that lets you pull down harder on the seal with the top. On the sides where the little shaft runs into and latches, the round receptacle can be adjusted up or down to tighten or loosen the tension on the seals. I have a feeling it is in the t-top center bar though. The little black center piece that the seals go into, it has 6 little screws that hold it down to the body of the car. There is also sealant under that bar and over time all the seals and sealant disintegrate and leaks start. Meaning the water is probably not leaking past the seals but under them through the t-top bar. Don;t waste your time caulking or siliconing it as that will just ruin the seals that may still be good. It is more than likely under all that where the issue lies.

Re: Leaky t-top quick fix?

Do you have the t-top drip rails that connect to the t-top itself? Not having those cover up the weatherstripping on the outside of the car will cause the the headliner to get wet and the back seat will be soaked. I am in need of the drip rails so I have this problem on my car. The headliner is thrashed and is falling apart because it has been soaked many times.

Re: Leaky t-top quick fix?

I'm with dave on this one. My drip rails are trashed and one of my tops edges are broken. I'm gonna try and get a new passenger top and I'm gonna take them apart, take that drip rail out, and see if I can't fab one up using an old rubber floor mat or something.

Re: Leaky t-top quick fix?

Yea I have looked all around town for something that I could use to make temporary drip rails but nothing yet. They get expensive if you want to buy them new, that's if you can find them.
