Another speedometer question.

I dont think any of the others answer my question.

I have an 84 camaro, and the speedometer clicks verry rapidply, and catches on every so often and flies up to whatever MPH. I've only driven it in the yard,so it hasnt been too fast.
I pulled the cluster today, and looked at the cable, i dont think its too bad, but i didnt pull it out. it spins when you drive it without the cluster, so i think its something with the speedo. Whats a way to test it?

Spinning and spinning consistently are two different stories. I'd pull the cable and clean both it and the cable housing of 20+ years of grunge. The following link, may be helpful if you haven't already viewed it:

If it's bouncing all over the place it's more than likely the cable.I'd replace that first. It should fix the issue.

Re: Another speedometer question.

i think its the ends in it, cause it works if you hold pressure on the cable to the speedo.

bad ends probally..

Now that i got that diagnosed, when i put the cluster back in, i got the fuel gauge reading in the middle, vertically... any ideas?
