May be pulling dash soon

I will probably be pulling my dash completely out very soon and replacing it with the one out of my 89 parts car. Im looking for any tips and suggestions to look into while doing this?

im trying to get rid of the hack job left by some of the custom work done in the 80's, such as where the tv and vcr used to be

Again, Thanks for all the help!!

if you have never pulled a dash before... take your time. It may not be a bad idea to mark some of the plugs with what they go to , although most of them are idiot proof plugs..Not a hard job just a little time consuming

take your time. its easy to get it out just watch out for all the wires and where they mount to the dash. it also helps to lower or remove the steering column.

I just pulled mine last week. Take your time. It can take a few hours.

I used small ziplock bags to sort and label each group of nuts and bolts. Then I tagged every electrical connection to make them easier to find again and connect.

I'm pulling the dash out of my 1985 Trans-AM for my ground up restoration. I'm doing things the same way. I'll probably be replacing much of the wiring as I'll be switching to electronic gauges and hopefully a digital dash. (Assuming I can find one in good working order.)

Re: May be pulling dash soon

To fix those holes I would use some fiberglass cloth to cover em, prime it and repaint it, you should never notice it.

I don't really like the woodgrain, lets leave that for buicks and caddilacs.

Carbon fiber may look good, post pics if you do it.

Best of luck-

Eric

Given that the "wood" isn't really wood, but rather plastic, one could actually paint it after masking the logo which would allow for a much better looking repair.

I think the carbon fiber might look good, personally, I really like the stock dash. have you considered a brushed aluminum type finish?
