i'm only 6'1". the leg room is alright. what i'd really like to know, is how can you get the seats to be "lower". so my head isn't all up in the headliner and crap.

can i drop the stock seats lower? the sustainment of the "power" to the seats isn't necesarry. if i can somehow remove something to get the seat a few inches lower would be awesome.

my current seat i believe is completely stock. 91 z28. cloth. power driver's seat.

let me know guys.

i'm new here by the way =) this post is popping my cherry =)
well hell, let's make this post even longer. car sat from like 02 - 08. took it out of storage, did a bunch of stuff to just get it "up and running". flushed/filled everything, new injectors, super tune up. got it summer in spring of 07. drove it around all summer all goofy and what what not..wouldn't idle/run right. took it to a friend in fall of 08. he told me it's losing compression in 2 and 5, so we decided to ship it out to get bored. meanwhile, he gave it back to me, i put it in storage until spring of 09. took it back to him, he took motor out, shipped it to speed service, it's now running likea champ. bored it 30 over. now, i'm starting to do things to 'get it right'. got new tires. still need to change the exhaust. the exhaust i put on it two years ago was to simply make it not so damn loud. when i took it out of storage, there was no exhaust behind the ypipe. threw a pipe and cheap muffler in it then. currently i'm looking into wheels. making the seats more confortable. and a new catback.

well yea, that's my story. this forum looks badass and i'm happy to be on it.

well, first of all, welcome to the board! now to the question. Unfortunately, there isn't much short-of-fabricating that can lower the seat. But something extremely useful that WILL lower the seat is switching seats to 4th gen seats (seats from any 1993-2002 Camaro OR Firebird/Trans Am). Those seats are direct bolt ins. The seats are held by 4 bolts (one to each corner). Unbolt, remove seat, put new seat in, put bolts back in...

Switching to 4th gen seats will also give you increased headroom, as they sit lower Maybe it is shorter mounts? Maybe its shorter cushions? (i suspect shorter cushions) but it give you more headroom.

the 3rd gen Power seat Rails will go 3" lower then that standard cloth seat.
in the back and in the front.. also it will tilt front or back.
im 6'4" and it fit me just fine.. lots of room left.

the power seat tracks will bolt to any 3rd gen seat..

all you have to do is wire power to it (easy)

you can also install reg pasger side seat rails on the driver side. this will drop the front of the seat down 2" in the front.

you can also remove almost 2" from the seat rear legs. by making them shorter.. (this has work in it) I did this to install my after market seats and get them to sit alot lower in the car for me.. and use GM sliders..
i made legs for the seats that are 1" tall thats 2" shorter then factry rail legs.

doing this lowerd my driver seat rails (new none power rails) 2" in front and 2" in back.. (no welding) all Bolt in Grade 8 stuff (easy)

this link will give a bit more info

i have 3rd gen cloth seats...and driver's side is a power seat. are you saying that they will go 3" lower just by reinstalling it? or did you mean to say "4th gen" instead of "3rd gen" in the quote above?

if you are 6'1" your seats should give you lots of room.. unless they are not working right..

maybe i'm just goofy...and don't have them pushed down all the way. it seems i only remember the forward/backward adjustment...and the two tabs did nothing.

i want cooler seats anyways. thanks for the pm.

not everyone is built the same.
Im only 5'11, but with a 30" inseam, im as tall as most people 6'2" when sitting
also depends how far back your seat is. more headroom the further back you go.

the different seats are different heights, my lear seigler seats are at least 2 inches taller than my original '86 transam non power seats were.
Im going to try and cut the legs down an inch before i recover them. I think im also going to make them a little more upright. they go up straighter than reg f-body seats do, but i like a straight back.

The DS seat track from a Fiero should be a direct bolt-in, and will lower your entire seat an inch or two.
