Guess how much your power seats weigh?

55 lbs each

Just weighed the ones I took out of my GTA.

Summit sells ones at 33 lbs.

Anyone know of an ultra-light seat out of a production car? Thinking of looking into Hondas for my new seats. They dont need to be pretty, just light.

Re: Guess how much your power seats weigh?

I was thinking that the seat was only 40 lbs when I pulled it out. Took it over to the scale and shortly after I was picking my jaw off the floor.

But im pretty sure the non power seats do weigh considerably less, seeing to it as they dont have the vacuum assembly or pump as well as the rest of the yada yada under there.

Re: Guess how much your power seats weigh?

The 4th gen seats I got last year were heavy as all hell! The passenger side was reasonable but the drivers side was a back breaker.

Porshce 914 seats are thin as cardboard and should be just as light, Mazda Miata seats are only slightly larger and really quite nice. Both might be dwarfed in an F body though.

My Mazda MX6 seats are very comfy and hold well but unfortunately they only came in power + leather in that style, the manual/cloth ones were more like Ford Probe seats and less bolstered.

The late 80's early 90's MX6/626 seats were pretty nice though and most were manual + cloth.

I really like the 90 ish Honda prelude seats, not as painful as the civics but not as plush as the Accord's.

Most euro car seats will be hard and flat even in sporty cars where American car seats will tend to be plusher than you really need. The Japs really liked their bolstering though and tended to make them light in anything but a luxury car so looking at Hondas is a good thing.

Base model cloth seats with manual 2 way sliders weigh significantly less than leathers

Re: Guess how much your power seats weigh?

thanks Guys.. car has been sitting for the last 8 years.. and most of the 10 before that was also sitting.. it's seen 36.000 miles in it's life.
but then it's getting it's 3rd eng.

ill try to get better photos. adding some black arm rest. see how that looks/adds to the seats..

this set of seats are light, and fully recline.. all tube steel frame and come with sliders, (i used GM sliders) to Mt them to.

iv been into Hot rods for a long time and have done a few cars over the years. and iv paid $1500 for seats in the past.. this set to my door was $350. and thats for the 2 seats with rails.w/ shipping.
you can get them in any color you like..ANY COLOR! they have it.
you can also get them in leather if you like.. a bit more money. but it's your dime.

UP DATE: this site has them for $300 shipped

Cloth, non-power seats, with tracks, weigh 35lbs each, IIRC.

add another 11lbs to the power driver seat thats 81lbs

ea seat i installed with rails was less the 21lbs ea
thats taking a chunk out..

LBS REMOVED FROM CAR (92 z28) diff in WT for parts installed
from steel hood to F Glass 60Lbs
from factry tires and wheels to weld
racing set 42lbs
alum heads 49 lbs
9" convertr 8lbs
A arms and K frame, (replaced with tube A arms and parts w/coil overs) 42lbs
AC and parts 40lbs
cats and parts to go with them 33lbs (replaced with headers and catback)
from glass to plastic head lights 5lbs
wiper /washer set 11lbs
seats 39lbs
TQ Arm and parts 27lbs
mini starter 8bls
spair tire/jack 26lbs
front and rear sway bars 12lbs
brake anti Vibe blocks 5lbs
aptma bat 3 lbs
alum water pump 5 lbs
oil cooler 6lbs

total 431 lbs removed from car..
with the car still looking good.

Now add in
Roll bars 59 lbs
SFC/lift bars 73lbs
NOS & guages 53lbs (i use 2 bottles in the car)
belts 2lb
9" ford 12lbs (dif)
fuel cell and lines with pumps 18lbs

199 lbs back into car..
it all adds up.. (note 75% of this is at rear of the car now)

now im thinking if i go with the alum dart block
and not the steel block i could take off another 90 lbs..

see how this adds up..
with a alum block close to 530lbs would be taken off the car..
but adding the other goodys back in would bring it to the 330lbs off the car..total
now if i can drop 100 lbs on me....i would be 190 lbs (skin and bone)
and to weak to drive it..lol

Re: Guess how much your power seats weigh?

Hey I checked it out and youre right! 55lbs is way too much! I'm assuming the passenger weighs about 40lbs. Still too much. I'm scrapping both this week. I found some nice ones on summit. There is a set that reclines and includes the brackets for $439.95. They weigh 33 lbs each. I'm going with the solid set. They are about $250.00 for the seats, covers, sliders and brackets. They still slide but do not recline. Get this....

THEY WEIGH 12 LBS!!!!!!!

Thats right! And the covers weigh about 2lbs! If i replace my driver seat with that, I will shed about 35 lbs off the driver side and about 20 off the passenger side! And thats a rough estimate. It may be less. I will let you know when they come in. Keep lookin.....

Re: Guess how much your power seats weigh?

Maybe not the ideal place to ask this stupid question, but since there isn't a weight reduction forum....Anyone know a good way to find out how much your car weighs in its current configuration? Can dyno shops tell you the weight? and is there a way to find out weight distribution as well? Cause I have no idea where I would weigh a car....

Re: Guess how much your power seats weigh?

I put a set of Honda Prelude seats in my truck after getting rid of that hideous bench. Got them for a whopping $150 for pair at a swap meet. They look great, are super light and cloth/leather combo. I had to fab up my own mounts due to the height of the org bench. I'm sure with a little thought you can get it to work for you.

Re: Guess how much your power seats weigh?

If you want to weigh your car, you can try what i did. go to a local dump. they weigh passenger trucks before and after to see how much trash you brought. i just pulled up, read the display, told them thats all i needed, and they were pretty cool with that! i just turned around and left, no charge. it weighed 3430!!! minus my weight of 160lbs and my car weighs 3270. my goal is to get it to about 2900. do that before and after any mods and also know where your tank is. if you go with a full tank one time and a quarter tank the other, the results will vary. as far as weight distribution, theres no way that i know of checking. however, most of the weight will be at the front.

Re: Guess how much your power seats weigh?

Drive only the front wheels on the scale to get the front weight, and only the rear wheels on the scale to get the rear axle weight. Seems pretty simple...

Do you mean you want to know corner weights, not just front to rear weight distribution?

No, and I'm no but expert but I believe it wouldn't be accurate unless you positioned the car such that the center of balance was right on the edge of the scale.

Re: Guess how much your power seats weigh?

Maybe I'm completely wrong here, and I honestly don't recall, but I think I used to see all the time at turnpike booths how much vehicles weighed while paying their toll? I don't recall seeing this in recent times though if indeed I ever did at all...
