Complete Carbon Fiber
Okay so I've recently been getting into "Carbon Fiber 'ing".
-Making a mold of something and making it complete Carbon Fiber part. I was thinking about going big such as center consoles, complete dashes (4th and 3rd gen) headliner, etc. I was wondering if there was any interest in this.
It would be awhile for this to get started but I just wanna throw the idea up there.
Again I'm not talking about just covering a piece in CF but making the whole piece from CF. Not FB but CF sheets and resin etc etc
So if there is interest I will be considering mass producing them, if not oh well.

Re: Complete Carbon Fiber
im sure theres a market, question is can you make it profitable.
These items will certainly turn out to be rather expensive, and I havent seen that many people willing to put big bucks into their 3rd gen interiors...yet. this market is definitely still developing as the 3rd gens become true classics.
Just going to point out something: "good enough" is not good enough when selling custom car parts. dont expect to sell any of these unless they really good quality. anyone can make a piece of crap themselves. Also, coming from a guy with lots of marine fiberglass experience, dont expect any design to be sellable on the first try. It will always come out differently than you expect on the first try.
go for it, love to see the work. but as they say : "dont quit your day job"

Re: Complete Carbon Fiber
I'm looking to replace the front side panels on my 83' with CF but don't know what weight cloth to use. Any chance you could give me an educated opinion on what would be best?

I'd certainly be interested in the console and dash at least. I'd like to lighten my car but keep some interior pieces so the lighter the better.

Re: Complete Carbon Fiber
I'm wondering what the price on something like this would be. My dash (and console to a lesser degree) are falling apart and either need o be fixed or replaced with something.

Re: Complete Carbon Fiber
There would probably be more interest if we had some pics of what to expect. Personally, I think a CF headliner would be nice as opposed to the poor fitting ABS crud that's also availble for t-top cars. And also a CF instrument panel trim piece.
:edit: And a CF roof console (for those who want to keep the stock material in the headliner) would be cool if there was the possibility of having custom work done on it such as holes cut for switches, gauges, storage, and other displays, similar to newer cars.

Re: Complete Carbon Fiber
my ABS headliner took a few hours to trim and fit, taking it in and out of the car, but once i got it right it looks almost factory, check my thread on my roof console with ABS headliner and you will see my fit
also i have to add, mine is uncovered, and i painted it to match my interior, i like it better that way
