Suggestions needed for lumbar support in my 92 Camaro
Suggestions needed for lumbar support in my 92 Camaro
Hello everyone,
I'm pretty new here, but it seems like a friendly bunch so far
I've got a nice list of things I need to do for my car, but one important thing is I need back support. The stock seat is making me slouch and very uncomfortable, for one because I have chronic pain issues, but two, the seat really has no back support. I don't want to put a whole new seat in. Should I just get a lumbar cushion? There's a gazillion on the net, but will it fit right in my bucket seat? That is the million dollar question. Plus I think I might need more than just lumbar support, but overall support. If anyone has suggestions, please throw them my way. Thank you!!!

Hey, Holly, welcome to TGO. Aside from the cushion you mention, you might consider two types of seats with lumbar built in: The mechanical Lear/Siegler Conteur seat (seen in my vbGarge, lower left) or an electric fourthgen version with an inflatable bladder.

Lemme ask you a side question. Do you think the cars are worth more down the road the more stock you keep them? I am afraid to make to many mods for that reason also.

It's only 4 bolts to replace your stock seat with a Firebird seat with the lumbar controls or a 4th gen sear with them, so it really simple to swap them out. But if you get some with the lumbar bladders, you'll have to see if the wiring is already under your carpet for them (probably is) or run a few new wires & a air hose.
You could swap to a 4th gen set, much more comfortable, and put your stock seats in storage to save them from getting "abused" by daily use.

I have a 92 RS and I bought a set of seats out of a 2000 trans am. I don't have them in yet because they need to be recovered but I have to tell you there is a night and day difference between these seats, the stock seats feel like a piece of plywood with a thick piece of foam over them well the trans am seats are a lot firmer and VERY supportive with great side bolster support too, these are easily the most comfortable seats I have ever sat in (including recliners). As Stephen said it is only 4 bolts to change the seats out and 4th gen seats bolt right in too but with the power seats there is some wiring involved I haven't done it yet but I don't think it will be to bad other than having to remove the carpet to route the harness. I would get the 4th gen power seats and not look back. As far as value for stock versus mods stock will always be worth more but the way I look at it anything that can be done can be undone, I would just enjoy the car.

Even if you can't find the power seats, I have a 92 Camaro that had leather seats and I always kind of figured they were good ones, but the bottoms were starting to sag a little. I found a good set of seats in a 95 Firebird that were almost unbelievably more comfortable . The lumbar support, side bolster support, and even support under my legs was amazing. I know it's not all that easy to find seat of that age in great shape, but they're out there. Girls are allowed in junk yards too, you just have to go try sitting in some seats. Only 4 bolts in and out. Good luck

Really? Get outta here!
Well my Mom brought home some spare lumbar pillows from work, guess I'll try them out. Also know someone that said they can put padding in the seat itself and repair a couple small tears. Gotta see how much that would cost.
Glad you guys found some comfy seats for your rides!
