4th gen seats in my third gen
Ok, I already have fourth gen seats, but the driver seat is a power seat, I am curious if I could find a seat track to get rid of the power and just have a lever to move the seat back and fourth? or am I better off just putting in a relay to get it wired up correctly?
thanks

I think I would get a relay and hook it up correctly...take advantage of luxury. Power seats are nice to have.

You don't need a relay - just a pos 12 source and a fuse. In your fuse box, you'll see a empty slot with an arrow pointing at it and it will be marked BAT - crimp a standard 1/4in spade connector on a wire, and stick it in that slot. Then put an inline 30amp fuse between it and the seat, and connect to the orange wire of the seat motor (run all this under the carpet/door step plastic. Then connect a wire to the black wire of the seat motor and ground it anywhere (I drilled a small hole in the seat belt bracket and inserted a self-tapping screw - done.
This slot has power always - that way the seat can be adjusted between drivers BEFORE anyone has to climb in and insert key (like between myself and my short wife that never remembers to put the seat back after she climbs out).

Re: 4th gen seats in my third gen
well, i think its been draining my battery, and the way it was wired up it took a thick orange power wire straight to the motors, not the fuse block. but I was thinking it could make sense to put in a on off switch to just completely stop power to the motors all together.

So even though I can use them without the key in the ignition they arent using power unless they are being used?

I have a 85 Z it did not have wires for power seat under carpet. I am in process of putting 2002 Trans Am power seat driver side. Both seats have adjustable lumbar and bolsters. Both seats will be heated. Passenger side will be power also. That is if I can wire the switch for passenger side to work as it should.

A lot of times it can be an underhood light or trunk light that malfunctions and always stays on. I'm not sure what the correct way to diagnose this but what I would do is pull one fuse at a time until you find the one that doesn't drain your battery when pulled out, then I would find out what's all on that circuit and unplug individual components on that circuit. I'm sure there is a faster way to do it but that's the easiest way I can see to do it. Good luck.
