Question about forth gen seats

I found today at a local junkyard 2 4th gen seats, there a little worn and there is some rust on the seat tracks which I know is common my question is since the 4th gen seats are a direct bolt into 3rd gen cars can I simply take the tracks off my 3rd gen seats and put them on the new forth gen seats. Also I plan on recovering these seats my self but I am having trouble finding a company that makes re upholstery kits for just the two front 4th gen seats, anyone know any info on these issues I would be very appreciative of it.

Re: Question about forth gen seats

the rust is common, but i would POR15 the seat tracks before putting them in, it would look a hell of a lot nicer... i also heard that the 3rd gen seat tracks are way lighter than the 4th gen ones, so I would like to know this as well!

Re: Question about forth gen seats

PM me for info on front seat covers. Just keep in mind that the aftermarket seat covers aren't the same fabric as the originals, so if you only recover the fronts, they won't match the rear.

Re: Question about forth gen seats

The 3rd gen seat track should be taller. I suppose that would be good for the short guys.

Yep. I'm 6'5" and plenty of headroom to spare (4th gen seats).

Re: Question about forth gen seats

OK well I found out that my stock tracks will work with the 4th gen seats....My new question is does anybody know which bolts connect the tracks to the seat itself?

Re: Question about forth gen seats

there are 4 bolts u gatta move the tracks around a lil bit to be able to get to them but shouldnt be a problem just watch ur fingers the springs are pretty tuff and with out any weight on them they will shoot foward when u hit the lever to move the tracks.. i got the stitches scares to prove it and i knew about it.. just had my hand in the wrong place

Re: Question about forth gen seats

Ok well I took the tracks off the passenger side seat today not really that hard started to sand down the rust..... but when I got them off I realized that the seat pan has rust on it so I took off the seat cover some and bam rust, rust and more rust came off.. I know that they used low quality steel to make these parts but dang I havent seen this type of rust on interior parts before even from a junkyard parts car, well after about 2 hr grinding and sanding I got most of the rust I could reach off but to get it all off I am going to have to separate the seat pan from the back part of the seat does anybody know how to do this? Also I have heard of Por 15 but that you basically have to sand blast the metal before you use it, I have also heard of rust bullet being really good to stop rust, has anybody used it or have any other suggestion about what to do to get rid of the rust.

Re: Question about forth gen seats

POR15 does not need to be sanded down to use.. It actually paints over rust and after that it will never rust again.. There is prep tho.. You need to degrease it, then use 'metal ready' (spray it on with a bottle) and then paint it on with a brush or spray (in this case, i think brushing it on is the easiest way to do it if you can't remove it from the seat completely.)

I painted the whole underbody of my car here with POR15 and it came out pretty good:

Re: Question about forth gen seats

To be clearer, you CAN sand the rust down and still paint over it, but you still have to prep it. So it is up to you. Some people say it adheres to rust better than smooth metal but in my experience it has work on both. They say it's all in the prep..
