Re: lights switch removal
Turn the caps lock off tiger, thank you
There is actually a metal tab on the back of the ****. If you pull out the **** like turning on the headlights you can slip behind it and use a hook tool or something to push on the metal tab to relieve its grip on the metal rod (works like a friction jack or the metal tab on a caulking gun that makes the handle push the rod). While pushing, pull the black plastic **** off. Then the rod is still in the switch so you can turn your headlights off.
If you wear make up, take the mirror from you compact and you can use it to see the metal tab.
When you use the release button on the bottom of the switch when you remove the **** with the rod the headlights come on and stay on until you push the rod back in and it locks back into place.

Re: lights switch removal

Sorry - heterosexual 45yo male here - not that I disapprove of anyone's lifestyle preferences, and I totally get that the OP may in fact be a female, but ...
This just made my day!
I personally never had any luck trying to take the **** off the rod - I always just went under the bottom dash and pushed the metal button to remove the rod from the switch. Note that the metal button may be hard to see - there's a ton of wires there, and the metal usually rusts from humidity making it brown/and hard to spot. The button is also domed so it's hard to push - I use one of the screwdrivers that has the security star end, so that the security 'hole' in the end kinda hugs the dome and doesn't slip off. You have to push up on it hard.

I wish homosexuals would stop feeling they have something to brag about and just keep their private lives in the bedroom like the rest of us!
But I was not asuming any sexual orienatations about the OP. Even a girlfriend or sister or mom could have one of those things. Thought it better than say "coke mirror".
If that clip is too hard to do then if I remember right you can also pull the **** out turning the lights on and unscrew the bezel and see the silver button under the switch through the holes behind the bezel as well.
And back in high school (over 26+ years ago) there was a hard rocker Iron Maiden/Ozzy type guy that would sit in his van before school started putting on some eye shadow or some stuff there. So the OP could also be a head banging rocker type

Yeah, I know - there's endless possibilities for the make up mirror - it just struck me as funny and was a highlight to my day!

I don't have a make up mirror but I do have the one I stick to my shoe for checking up skirts. I'm not a perv or anything. Just these days you need to make sure what a gal has up her skirt before you talk to her.

Also, if the screw is too tight just use a vibrator to loosen things up.

Sometimes we like to see the humour in things. No one says this board has to be serious all the time.
Glad you found a way to loosen up your "****". It's good to have a loose **** sometimes.

I wish people on here were serious, because after all the sillyness I still can't figure out how to remove the light switch. Not just the **** ,the switch and all.It is very cramped in there, how do you access the switch?

Re: lights switch removal
You need to remove the panel under the steering wheel to be able to reach up and get a hold of it. When you remove the bezel in front of the switch and get either the **** or **** and shaft off you then have to unscrew the plastic nut holding the switch in . You get to it from the front using either a flat bladed screwdriver or needlenose to unscrew it. When loose you have to unplug it and pull out from the bottom or from the side if you want to remove the gauge cluster for access there. Kind of a pain but patience helps. Easiest if you get the shaft and **** out first
