Re: Overhead Console

Supposed to be a reminder of some sort, with the mileage wheel in the case of future reminders to change oil, rotate tires, etc...IIRC, you can turn the 'wheels' to change it to 'birthday', 'appointment', etc.

Really though, I think they just ran out of ideas of how to fill that space on the console and came up with that as a low-cost solution. Probably the biggest drawback of the whole overhead console, if they had filled that space with something cool like a compass or temperature readout, I think more people would have ordered them.

For the unfamiliar, take note that there are two versions of the overhead, one for coupes, one for t-tops:

WOW, good find!!! I found mine at a junkyard too, but it was missing the flashlight, and the bezel for the rollers. You NEVER find flashlights in them at junkyards. Usually the flashlight is worth more than the entire console.

Seems all the rare cars or desirable options are on cars that are either in junkyards or sitting somewhere left to die like mine

Re: Overhead Console

Re: Overhead Console

I'm thinking about taking the reminder wheels out of mine and putting a clock in there, just having a hard time finding one small enough to mount in there.

Very nice. Here are a couple of other ideas:

LED's:

Color (the ABS that 86Z mentions above might work well in place of the cover):

Could be cool. My car is has the lower console clock, which some early cars were equipped with--that along with the radio clock makes me well aware of passing time.

In the past ive found quite a few overhead consoles with flashlights in the junkyards.Helps if you search the car throughly as they arent always where they are suppose to be.

I found the Firebird Flashlight I have now (I added a O/C to my Formula), in between the passenger seat and console once in a 86 S/E , the Overhead Console was already gone though.

Is there a way to make the switches auto-up & auto-down?

i have no issues reaching up and hitting the button to roll down the windows, no different then hitting the moon roof slide button on another car. besides i roll them down and that's it, my car is not a daily driver.

you could make them auto, i think there is a device you can install to do it.

Re: Overhead Console

Or use a busted dashboard for the plastic.Id put a garage door remote in the same spot, but i dont wanna rip out the dials just for that.Plus i dont have garage door opener!

On a side note: Some cadillacs have a garage remote in the same shape as the OH flashlight & it fits the OH flashlight recepticle, a little tight, but it fits.
