87 GTA Articulating Front Buckets In A 1986 TA

Greetings,

Does anyone know if the front articulating bucket seats from a 1987 GTA will fit in a 1986 TA.

Let me know.

Thanks,

Fit? Yes. The wiring & such will take some doing to add to the 86 though, since it won't already be there.

Thanks for the feedback. One question i have through, is the entire seat powered. What i mean by that is the movement front and back as well as tilt motorized or is just the lumbar aspect of the seat. Could I get away without powereing them?

Let me know,

Thanks,

Ed

The power only controls the lumbar. Everything else is manual.

The lumbar is internal to the seat, and has a dedicated power/control circuit.
The front-back, etc, is accomplished with a power seat track, which includes
the 6-way switch panel, and takes its own (constant hot) power circuit.
The standard manual seat tracks just move front-back.
Tracks bolt to the floor panels, and seats bolt to the tracks, and both
are interchangable across lots of models. However, switching drv/psn
is usually not as easy.

Hope this helps.

All you have to do is run a fused power wire (and a ground) to the seats. Nothing complicated.

The GTA never had the power 6 way base, they were all manual tracks. The lumbar is the only powered part of the seat. You need the seats and the harness/hose assembly from the donor car. It plugs in behind the drivers side kick panel, routes back to the drivers seat along the rocker panel, then cuts over under the center console and over to the passengers seat. To get it out the carpet has to be pulled back. Remove the parts from the donor car correctly and it's just a matter of routing the harness and plugging it in.

Re: 87 GTA Articulating Front Buckets In A 1986 TA

Dear Drew,

Given the fact that I am transplanting the seats from a 89 GTA Trans AM to a 1986 Trans AM is it really as easy as just plugging in the harness. Would the 1986 car have this place to plug in the harness behind the kick panel like the 1989 has?

Should I get the Power Seat harness from a 1986 TA instead?

Please let me know your thoughts.
