Need help putting steering columm together

Tighten up steering columm my ****!!!!

Wow it seemed so simple and it is if everything does not break and random parts fall off before you can even tell where they came from.

So far the damage is the headlight dimmer rod (guess I will do the floor dimmer mod now ) and for some reason my lock cylinder decided it wanted to break too, so its bypass vats and put a regular cylinder in it or get a new vats one.

Still do not know if the turn signals will work right

Anyway does anyone have good pics of putting it back together? Im up to the turn signal switch as of now and Im trying to figure out what my random parts that fell out without me seeing where they came from go.

Ill try to get up some pics of the random parts

Re: Need help putting steering columm together

well the parts your showing are
1 unsure but *looks* like the vats plug
2 its a clip that goes in with the plastic under your ign key cyl.
3 is a part that goes lower left of the colum and your bright light switch pushes on it

your going to have to take some stuff back apart to get it all back in.
You need to test each switch and part for proper operation as it goes back together.

Re: Need help putting steering columm together

The brass locks the steering wheel from turning when you pull the key out. Just like you think.
The part for the brights should be put back in or your lever may flop around..

Re: Need help putting steering columm together

well I got it done

I need a new ignition cylinder tho, right now a 10MM socket is the key and a resistor is on the VATS wires.

I did away with the turn signal high beam and went to a old school floorboard switch.

Only thing that I could not get to work right was the lock for the steering wheel

Otherwise its great, got a little play in one of the ball bearings on the column. The one behind the turn signal cam and spring for the horn ring/lock plate.

anyone know where I can get one?

Re: Need help putting steering columm together

The brass thing is the contact for the horn switch (that makes contact with the white disc)... The column lock is up towards the top of the column and engages the lock ring.

If you've got play in the upper bearing still, that means you didn't seat the inner race (gold piece) all of the way and you've probably bent your lock plate. The race didn't seat (if you remembered to put it back in), the spring above it didn't seat, the signal cancel cam didn't seat, and your lock plate isn't working (and probably bent to crap, ask how I know ) because everything is out of place. Go back in and do it right before you end up in a crash.
