sick of static shocks

Anyone every have a problem with static shocks when getting out of your 3rd gen???

Getting on my nervers big time, I can't even sit down for a split sec and when I get out I get a nasty shock when I touch the door.

Yes all cars seem to do it sometimes, but its every single time, almost like I need to add a ground strap from the seat fabric to the body

factory seats, no covers.

It is the cold weather. I can't think of one thing I've ever gotten shocked by my car here in Texas, even in our "Winters".

Re: F'in sick of static shocks

The higher the humidity, the less chance of static shock.

I usually get a nice spark after exiting the car and touching the door. I keep my hand on a metal part of the door/body as I step out an onto the pavement. No sparks.

Nice theory (humidity) but it was DRY all Summer here plus little rain the rest of the year. No static even in the dry times here. But I bet leather is worse about static than the cloth seats. who here has leather & static problems? Cloth for me.

This is true. It's why my workplace has humidifiers. IIRC, we keep the humidity above 30% to reduce the chance of electrostatic discharge while working on printed circuit boards.

Re: F'in sick of static shocks

Ive got that same issue ever since I replaced my interior and it was getting damn annoying so I went and got me one of those anti-static spray dealies seems to be working pretty good. I got it from walmart in the laundry section for a couple bucks.

Re: F'in sick of static shocks

I feel your pain. However, I get shocked no matter where I go or what I touch. Everytime I get outta the car, my Camaro or the wife's Magnum, I get shocked so bad it makes my fingers hurt for a while. Then I touch the door of whatever building I'm going in, and get another one. In my car though, I used to get out with my hand on the side of the seat. I'd get shocked from every little pore in the seat it felt like, and that **** hurt. Got used to grabbing actual metal on the car, and it still hurts, but it's just one shock, instead of a buncha little ones like w/ the seat.

You can do what they did in the old days!!!hang two straps from the bottom of the car that drag the street. That worked well when you paid the toll taker, neither would get shocked. You young guys would't know what I'm talking about

I found if I touch my leg to the door sill as I get out and before I touch anything, it will set it off and the insulation from the jeans and the numbness in my lower right calf, its a slight poke instead

Re: F'in sick of static shocks

Just hang onto the door/sail panel, any metal piece as you step out. Any charge will dissipate through your feet to the ground, without a shock.

Re: sick of static shocks

I have had the same problem this past month! I sprayed my seats, carpet and door panels with a product called Static Guard that I got at a common retail store and it completely took care of the issue.

Re: sick of static shocks

Believe it or not wind can cause static. So does friction. ( balloon rubbed on cloth then held close to hair makes hair stand up. ) Some gas stations tell you NOT to get in your car while filling it. When you exit the car the spark from cloth on cloth friction can start an inferno.

Open door, step both feet on the ground, hold onto the window, stand up, then lock the door and close it.
That's the Only thing I can think of. If all else fails, blame someone else lol

Re: sick of static shocks

Thought about this and my newish seat covers, giving my double strength static shocks.

I shoved several dryer sheets in between the two, static gone.

Re: sick of static shocks

I usually put my feet out, hold my hand against the body, door frame or some other metal part, get up, close the door and so prevent myself getting shocked.

My Grandfather had them on his 68 Chrysler Town&Country Station Wagon. That car had a 440 in it and went so fast when he drove, he needed em. No ZAP!

Re: sick of static shocks

All winter I get blasted every time I get out of any car. Humidity plays a huge part in this, but the type of clothing you wear does too. Nothing but cotton in the warm months and no shocks, humid or not. Synthetics build a good charge up. Hoodies are a blend of polyester and cotton. ZAP!

Those things looked or look goofy. I member them and curb feelers on cars.

always has a stand out lighten bolt on them, new ones on ebay are reflector city.

maybe if painted black and hung like off the axle so its no easy to see them...

Or just bend down one of the coat hangers holding up the exhaut to drag on the ground

Re: sick of static shocks

my solution to the static shock was just to hold my left hand against the body while sliding out. therefore i ground myself. the way i see it, is that youre using yourself as a capacitor when sliding out and getting the static electricity buildup in your body. when you ground yourself when getting out, you solve the problem of storing the tiny bit of electricity in your body
