Dash Housing Question

Doing a resto on an 88 IROC, my dream car! The interior is pretty much destroyed. I need to find a dash housing, not a pad. Mine has a split above the radio and is all beat up.

Question is this, can a 89-92 housing fit an 88? I'm keeping all my current gauges and guts. I just want another housing. I searched high ans low and all posts seem to deal with a gauge swap, which I'm not doing.

Thanks!

Re: Dash Housing Question

any of the dash housing (complete dash) from 85 to 90 would be a match. Anything 84 and under you would have to watch because of the belinetta and the digital dashes, they were a bit different I believe. 91 to 92 had the different cluster so I'm not sure. Anyone with thoughts or verification on this.

Welcome to TGO, donkason and Iroc.

The cluster from your 88 won't fit the 90+ dash as the two dashes are shaped differently.

Post what state and area you are from. I'm sure someone from your region can direct you to some salvage yards. I've seen at least 30 from my trips and 99% of the time, that part is always intact and present, minus the dash emblem and sometimes vents.

Where in Massachusetts you at? The only wrecking yard close to me that has any 3rd gens only have like three third gens that are pretty much picked thru.

Re: Dash Housing Question

Central Ohio. I never thought about calling a salvage yard for that. I'll jump on the phone today.
I've used Triplett for dash parts on a Tahoe. They delivered and what I got was nicer than what I pulled out.

Thanks!

Re: Dash Housing Question

Salvage yards were a complete bust. They almost chuckled when I told them what I was looking for. Is there a way to do repair work on the current dash or does somebody know a place I can send it for restoration?

Re: Dash Housing Question

if you can't find in your area call some places like Camaro Heaven or Third Gen Ranch, they should have some really good dashes. check price and shipping cost, it'll be better in the long run than trying to repair your dash...
I'm restoring my 86 Iroc and when I go to the wreckers I buy lots of the little parts that i know will be had to get real soon.

A wife would call it a junker, a man would call it clean canvas ready for art. Mine will look like that over the winter when we do the body wlean

I'll check with the vendors mentioned and see what they have. I was trying to avoid paying clean retail for it, but I'm sick of chasing my tail. I drove 1.5 hours s for a dash on Craigslist with 145 speedo. He said it was mint and out of a show car. I got there and the bottom mount points were split and running up towards the front of the dash. 1.5 hour drive home angry and lesson learned!
