Interior console light question

I need help in seeing the light, literally!!!!

I am looking for help in repairing/replacing the console light in a 1991 automatic Trans Am Convertible. This light illuminates the transmission gears [P R N D L L1] and not the one in the glove-box. Mine for some reason has crapped out and I cannot figure out how to gain access to the light so that I can see what gear I am in while driving. Any insight as to how to gain access, and then how to replace [what is the bulb size/where can I get one?] it would be a tremendous help.

Thanks in advance

Re: Interior console light question

If it's like the 86 TAs you'll have to remove two screws just under the console lid, then their is a screw under the ash tray.just lift the whole shifter plate up,you may have to remove the shift **** if you cant get to the bulb.

it looks like this one, except mine is an automatic.
It is the bulb located under the auto shifter plate.

It's the same, just remove the screws I described and lift it up.

These two screw holes and one under the ash tray.

Yes, these things light up, but it's more for decoration than functionality. It's pretty easy to tell what gear you're in while driving, you should run around 2k rpm at 60mph, if you're in 3rd it would be closer to 3k rpm.
