Removing console clock?

Hi,

Apologies if already asked, I cannot find it.
How does one remove the center console clock? I took the screws out around the clock but won't budge... Do I have to remove the entire center console?

Thanks,

Shepp

Three screws (a bit of harness, and the winding stem) hold the clock to the upper console. You can remove the clock by loosening the rear of the upper console and lifting it up.

Cool,

Do you have any pics of what bolts/screws to remove?
I have a NOS clock I want to put in and send my non working clock off for repairs.

Thanks,

Shepp

Here's a pic of one of the three holes in the clock itself. The screw goes through the hole and into the upper console.

Re: Removing console clock?

Cool,

But I have a clock and see these holes. What I cannot sort out is:
You can remove the clock by loosening the rear of the upper console and lifting it up.

How do i do this? What and where are the screws/bolts to accomplish actually pulling the old clock out?

Thanks man,

Shepp

Re: Removing console clock?

Would I just loosen and/or remove al the torx and bolts as if I were going to remove the ctr console to do this but, then just lift the rear of the console up to access the clock/insert NOS clock?

Thx,
Shepp

Re: Removing console clock?

IIRC, you can remove the two screws at the bottom of console (lift the lid to locate them), then lift the rear of the upper console, which will allow you to access the underside of the clock and the three screws securing it in place.

Re: Removing console clock?

Ok the new clock is now installed...

I take it the clock is on the same circuit as the horn and dome light? My horn, dome, and now NOS clock are not working...

I need to find a good shop to take it and get this electrical issue sorted... Sigh

Thanks James.

Those are on the same fuse--probably blown. Check the following fuse diagram:

Do you have a diagram of where the horn(s) are? I've got a 1984 Z28 if that helps.

Ty sir,

Open hood. Front, inside the driver's side fender.

Re: Removing console clock?

Is there just one horn? I took a peek and do see a horn. I took the connector off and while clean, I did put dielectric grease on but still just click click from relay. Will take a better/more thorough look next week.

Ty,

Shepp

Re: Removing console clock?

Some cars apparently have a single horn.

Picture of the Clock installed.

Yes, the second hand is red, not orange. I was driving when I took this pic, so pardon the somewhat blurry image.

1984 Clock installed in 2012

Shepp Was It A Hassle Removing/Installing Your Clock,My Clock Works But Exposure To The Sun After 28 Years Has Curved The Second Hand Up So When It Makes A Sweep It Rubs On The Clock Lens And Stops I'd Like To Remove It To Repair Just Curious If You Ran Into Any Problems. Also, What's That Extra Screw On Your Trim Plate

Hi,

Not a hassle at all once James C came along and helped me out. I also used this video (iPad with me in the car):
I had to basically remove all the screws on the center console and then lift the center console up from the rear end of the console. I didn't have to actually remove the center console, just lifted it up about 8" and propped it up so I could work on the clock. Getting to three bolts holding the clock was not bad, I was able to use a 1/4" ratchet and I think it was an 8mm socket. Then you just unplug the clock. It took <1 hour.

The trim plate on my 1984 Z28 has four of those torx screws around the plate of the clock but they appear to be all for show. I took those out first thinking the clock would just pop out of that hole, lol... but they do and hold nothing.
