Cup Holders for under $5 =)...Take a L@@K!

So I went by Walmart and saw these universal cup holder things(cost me $2 plus tax) and said what the heck somethings better than nothing......It literally took me no more than 10 min to mount these and as you can see all I did was put a screw in through both of them and clipped off the end of them...I tried them out when I drove and they work great...

So for cup holders under $5 this is not a bad idea if all you want is a cheap way to hold your drink while your driving. If your like me and just need a cheap way to get a cup holder in our in thirdgens this is by far the easiest way....
an
d by the way does not get in the way of the passengers leg room...tested it out already....

et me knwo what you all think....

Re: Cup Holders for under $5 =)...Take a L@@K!

i had almost the exact same idea with the same cup holders this spring when i was getting ready for what turned out to be a 3900 mile trip over 8 days..

i cut the top part off and used some self tapping screws in each side of the console- driver and passenger- to hang them by the little holes in the sides.. this allows them to be removable for when you don't want your leg rubbing against it.. since i'm the only person in my car 99% of the time, i left the passenger side one on and use that and the driver's side one is sitting between the seat and door waiting for when i need it..

You might search around for an older Alpine and/or Pioneer din and a half unit which fills the hole like the OE. You can see a bit of my Alpine in my garage (shed-like icon next to my online status on the left).

I bought these:
Amazon Amazon
I cut off the top added some velcro and pop riveted them to the center console
near the heater vents. They work great and hold anything from a 12 oz can to an extra large drink at Jack=in-the-Box.

Are you freakin' serious? You clowns drilled holes in your console to hold a $2 WalMart cup holder? I'm beginning to think that TGO is going down hill with all of these "mods" that you guys brag about. Holy crap!!! such trash and so low class!

And the third gen image continues on......

I'm all for functionality, but that looks terrible in every way possible. Even your screws are oblonged outward. This definitely feeds the trailer-trash stereotype that I've been fighting for years.

I don't like it. It definitely looks as cheap as it cost you; there's no doubting that.

Ditto. The area between the seatbelt and the console holds cups just fine in a pinch with your leg there to stabilize. No reason to hack up a perfectly good console to put in a POS cup holder. Congratulations, you just pissed off another owner of that car down the road.

Even better, a 4th Gen CD player will bolt right in. You can get them remanufactured off of eBay with AUX jacks installed. Here's mine:

Scott, I agree the crap people do here thinking that it is cool just kills me, these cars need to go up in value so ignoramuses cannot afford them any longer. Just hang the damm thing off your window like it was made for, don't cut up your car or screw into it!!!! between this and the rattle can paint I want to throw up

Just think, every person that jury-rigs their car just makes the others so much more valuable. Perhaps that's natures way of balancing out the quantity vs value dilemma.

The console is carpeted on the sides and the holes never show I guess you never drink anything in you car, or maybe you just spill it on your console The console easily replaced and a cheap plastic that crack all the time. Whats your problem.
I suppose your is real valuable, what they sell $3000 all day long. I've got at least 4 times that in my car and don't expect to ever get it back or sell it. You want an investment an IRA.

I drink stuff all the time, in bottles with lids. Try to find a mint GTA for 3k these days. Ain't gonna happen. The more cars you guys wreck, the more valuable the nice ones become.

Carpet or not, you still drilled holes into the side of your console. You may be able to find another console now, but what is some poor fool going to do twenty years from now when he's trying to restore that car that you mercilessly hacked up?

I will still have this car in 20 years and it isn't hacked up. I has 350 RWHP and new the interior is in great shape the body has no rust and except for a paint job is a special car. So just get over yourself.

Granted, you put it in a lot better place than the OP. Right through the shift plate. And on a manual transmission car nonetheless. Now, I don't know about camaros, but a nice 85-92 Firebird 5-speed shift plate now goes for triple digits.

I have nothing to get over. I understand the difference between performance based modifications and hacking up a soon-to-be collector car. I've had to undo crap like cupholders drilled into a console before. It's no fun when you're working on a car that replacement parts have become hard to source.

Re: Cup Holders for under $5 =)...Take a L@@K!

My dash is plastic and has a small crack near the AC vent (since before i got it) and I've gone through a couple of center console because of cracks. Finding original replacements in perfect condition is next to impossible. Fortunately the older they get the more aftermarket replacements parts will be made. Hawks makes plenty of interior replacement parts including the console lid and more parts everyday. The older they get the more parts will become available. They're enough aftermarket parts available for 57 Chevys for example to build an entire car.
I'm just glad my that my dash pad is still in perfect condition.

Lucky find on the dash pad. I had three, sold two to fund other projects and kept the best for my own. The problem with aftermarket parts is that some cars get them and some cars don't. Tri-Fives and 1st Gen F-bodys have a lot of reproduction parts available. Third Gens, not so much. The general view of most parts manufactures is that the majority of Third Gen community is too cheap to buy quality reproduction parts. Unfortunately, at present, they are quite correct.

That being said, try to find a mint console these days. I know it's next to impossible to find a nice Firebird console that hasn't started to separate. More often that not, you end up finding the best you can and repairing the problems.

I do rarely drink in my car, but again, nothing in a cup! Bottled drinks with a screw on cap only so the chance of a spill is limited. Also, I don't usually drink in the car because I don't need to. Why do so many people feel the need to have a drink in their hands at all times? The reason these cars don't have cup holders is because prior to the 90s, cars were meant as transportation and enjoyment. When you drove, you drove. There weren't many with cell phones, no cup holders and nothing else to distract you from "driving" the car.

Not sure why you make the comments you make about me spilling all over my console. Have you not seen my car? Yes, my car is real valuable. Value is what someone is willing to pay and I've had offers up to $20k for my car. A $3k car is far from what my car is and no where near the value of a car that I'm interested in owning at this point. Maybe if I wanted to do a restore, but I don't. I want to enjoy my car from day one! And I also don't need you to tell me about my investment portfolio. I don't own my car as an investment. Anybody looking to do so needs to rethink their future plans.

I mostly drive my camaro and special occasions club cruises ext. On long trips 100 miles or so (especially on hot days) I would bring an ice chest. It's nice to have a place to set a cold drink. I've read the stories on here where some of you only drink out of bottles with lids or caps, so do I. Just wondering where do set it down, between your legs?

I'm okay with all this. Every time someone spray bombs their car, hacks up the dash or console, ect....It makes my car that much more valuable.

I have seen people remove the clock in the console to put a drop in boat style cup holder. It looks stock, and not horrible.

Yikes fellas! Those cup holders are a bad idea on every level......I remember the day when I removed mine from the previous owner. I think the value of my car went up 5k.

If you must have them, try something like this.....there only $4, you can fold them up and they come in multiple colors.

yea, either between your legs or between your hip and the center console where the seat belt receiver is.

Yikes fellas! Those cup holders are a bad idea on every level......I remember the day when I removed mine from the previous owner. I think the value of my car went up 5k.

Did a quick search for 3rd gens for sale. I think some of you need a reality check. Here are just a few I found all under $4000 and in good condition, some with less than 100,000 miles. In fact the one that wanted $4000 decided to keep it after lowering the price several times and couldn't sell it.

Well, now I understand where you're coming from. You have no clue what original, low miles and clean is if you're trying to compare my car with the list you provided. You might actually want to get your eyes checked! There are many people trying to build their cars back to original. It's difficult to do when you buy the car hacked up like you guys are doing.

Here are a few cars that are in line with the low mile original thought like mine. I can guarantee that they are nowhere near as clean as mine.

Like I said. Get your eyes checked. It's a reflection!

Wait...are we talking about cup holders or radios? If its cupholders, yes I have drinks in my car (cans, bottles, and cups) and prefer not to take the chance of spilling anything in my car, so I use a dual cupholder, also from wally world, that slips into place between the passenger seat and the console. It doesn't bother the passenger and stays firmly in position. If I go to a show or something, I slip it out and put it in the trunk.

As far as radios, like anything else on YOUR car, YOU get to decide what you want to live with, I prefer stock.

My bird is spray-can matte black, has a worthless 2.8 and a hole in the floor.
I couldnt sell it for what I paid for it.

I get a coffee every morning on my way to work, I'd drill 10 holes if I could get a single functioning cup holder.
