clock hole

Anyone got any ideas of how to cut out the clock hole in our consoles so it will be perfectly round like a factory one? I have a few extra clocks and would like to install one but it will end up out of round with a dremel. Our consoles have the post to screw them in and you can see the hole in the casting but I think it will take a 3 inch hole saw bit to cut it right. Any ideas or has someone done this?

I cut my own with a hole saw. Just make sure you get the finest toothed one you can find, aim it level and go SLOW. If you try and push your way through it, you'll snag and crack the plastic.

No need to scribe any line as I recall...the circle can be seen on the backside in case you got that option...here's a pic of how mine turned out:

Confuzed1,
Personally I have never seen one. Is it a GM // 3rd gen or aftermarket?
Pic showing the face possible?
Looks interesting...

It's definitely OEM. I took it out of another Camaro a long time ago out of the boneyard. They say "Camaro Quartz" right on them....I've actually seen them in a lot of cars. Most are scratched up pretty bad on the face since they're plastic. Nothing some plastic polish cant take care of. I'll see if I can't get a pic of my spare one in the garage tomorrow.

Re: clock hole

They are one of the coolest and rarest options our cars have. I have bought several over the years but was afraid to try and cut the hole. You guys are awesome at it. I can't tell it from a factory console clock. The overhead console and bose option are the other rare options that I collect. I hope my hole turns out as good as what you guys have done. They are perfect. I would like to know what saw blade they used. Brand and part number would be awesome.

I'm considering cutting a hole elsewhere in the plastic, so a heads up would be terrific.

BTW, should anyone be interesed, I have an extra clock. PM me if you're interested.

Re: clock hole

The console clock reminds me of the big floor clock (built in the floor) the hard rock had in Dallas back in the 80s. We went there in the late 80s and if memory serves it was just inide the entrance and it was about 3 or 4 feet across. The bar was a guitar fretboard with painted frets and all. A very cool place.

Yep...but only if they came with a base, non-digital display radio. All cars with digital display radios had the clock built into the display. It was a pretty standard deal for all GM car lines in the early-mid 1980s; an easy way to tell a stripper car was the analog clock.

Makes perfect sense...most of the ones I used to see in the boneyard that had the clocks, were indeed base model cars like SC's with the 2.8's or Iron Dukes..

Hardly see any Thirdgens period around here anymore...

Re: clock hole

My IROC was fully loaded with the exception of the radio which was the AM version. Thus my car was equipped with one of the 800+ analog clocks in 85.

That sounds unusual....gotta be kinda rare to get all the bells and whistles with an IROC, and cheap out on the radio?

Was that 800+ among all models that year, or Just IROCs in '85?

That's what I've always thought. Shoot, my car even has the rear window washer and wiper.

According the the White Book, all models.
