My manual crank windows to power windows converstion

Got this kit from amazon for about $70 and finally got time to install it today. Check it out:

(I know the wires are atrocious, I still have to route them through the door grommets)

Here's the kit:

Re: My manual crank windows to power windows converstion

I have been thinking about doing the same thing. Have you thought about mounting the switches in the center console? Also, is that the only place you can mount the motor? I have a speaker mounted right where you put it (my speaker goes farther into the corner than yours does).

How fast do they go up?

You could put the switches anywhere im sure, I just didn't want to hack up the console. You can put the motor anywhere but that place allowed the door panel to lay flat still opposed to putting the motor on the outside of the panel. They go up decently fast, like 90s windows. The passenger one goes up much slower than drivers for some reason but I'm not complaining as long as I dont have to crank anymore.

Sorry, I don't like it. I got a complete changeover off ebay, motors, regulators, wiring and switches for less. (60 shipped) Plugs right in to the accessory block under drivers kick panel. It's a little more work, but it always is to do something the right way.

Is that an OEM kit? What did you do about the holes in the door panels?

Took a little piece of carpet and glued it on the backside. Not perfect but you'd have to get down and inspect it to really notice.(hole is only like 1/2") And yes it was a removal from an electric equipped car.

Re: My manual crank windows to power windows converstion

Well I want to keep my speaker and I don't think it would fit with a stock window motor

I didn't doubt you. I was just wondering if it was used out of an OEM equipped car, otherwise why would you say it was done "the right way".

The aftermarket kits that I have seen on ebay are hundreds of dollars. I did see that thirdgen ranch or one of those places does sell "kits" that are salvaged out of thirdgens.

Re: My manual crank windows to power windows converstion

OEM is the only right way IMO. And make no mistake about it, you will often pay for it. My purchase seems to have been an exceptional deal now that I looked on ebay again today for more like it. (forgot the lock actuators and switches came with it too, I already had them) But I have no doubt if you look enough you can find something similar.

Re: My manual crank windows to power windows converstion

The wiring won't be there unless it was equipped with power windows. The dash shell has to come out to get at the donor cars wiring and to put the wiring in the recipient. It runs in a plastic loom mounted just under the windshield. Be sure to remember where the screws and bolts all go and to put them all back or you will get rattles.
