89 FIREBIRD CONSOLE DOOR SPRING

Anyone have a drawing or photo of how the console door spring is attached inside the rear ash tray compartment and to the lever?

I got Hawks ThirdGen new console lid assembly but mine has been broke for a long time!
Thanks in advance!

I would also be very interested in this. Though, my pad is ok, the lever arm is broke out of it and pushed down into the console housing. I've taken the ash tray out and it appears everything is in there, but it doesn't pull up and push down right.

You'll have to replace the whole assembly just like I did. The spring is most likely broke as well.

The console door and spring is in. For all that have viewed, if you need the details I can post them.

I leave the spring out of my console door. I also took the light switch apart and cut that spring down so it wouldn't hold the door open.
I just don't like how its, to much spring and breaks a bunch of other stuff..

How do you get the spring off again? I did this once many years ago. I have to change mine but man what a pain to get the spring off the arm attached to the top. Thanks.

Take the rear ashtray out, frame too. Inside is a clip that slides up into a slot in the rear of the opening.
I used a 90 degree flat blade screwdriver and a small hammer to tap it down.

Then you can get the spring off the clip, my spring was broke.

When I put it back together, I put the spring on the lever and slid both through the top of the console where the lever slides up and down.

Once the lever and spring were in the opening where the ashtray was, I connected the spring to the clip and slid it back in the groove.

I put the screws for the hinge (console side) back in. Works like it's supposed to now.

There are two holes in the clip, I used the left hole, less pressure on the spring.
