4th gen seat in 3rd gen

I'm installing a 4th gen electric seat. Into my 3rd manual seat car. It wants to move forward by itself. What's wrong with this thing?

Re: 4th gen seat in 3rd gen

How do you have it wired? It could just be the contacts in the switch that are stuck.

Re: 4th gen seat in 3rd gen

I was just testing it to make sure it worked so I straight wired it. I didn't want an electric seat but for 100 bucks for both I couldn't say no. Now i m hoping someone here will guide me through getting it wired correctly. I'm in over my head with this one. The seat is out of a 95 camaro. Any suggestions would be appreciated

Re: 4th gen seat in 3rd gen

I put 95' Formula seats (power)in my 88' Formula with manual seats, I have it grounded to the seat stud and my power goes to the fuse box. Not sure how much different my fuse box is from yours but my power goes to battery(on all the time)plug in on the fuse box. I'll try to get a picture tomorrow if someone doesn't beat me to it

Re: 4th gen seat in 3rd gen

There should only be two wires to hook up, pos/neg & you can wire them straight to your batt or a hot port in the fuse box. There should also be a fuse inline.

If the seat is moving on its own, its possible the switch is stuck in the forward position. That would be the 4way toggle in the center.Maybe some contact cleaner

thanks. that makes since because the guy at the junk yard hooked it up to his jumper cables and moved it back and forward so he could remove the seat.

Just bolted a set of seats in mine from an 02 SS...no issues at all. You have a bad switch.

Re: 4th gen seat in 3rd gen

Thanks. Got me some electronics cleaner. And a inline fuse. Going to try and clean it first. If that doesn't work I'll get one from junkyard. I checked the price on new power seat switch. 90 bucks. Advance auto.

Check ebay for a new switch. I've seen then there for around $20.00. Those things get rained on in the junkyard and when it comes to anything electrical, new and clean is better than old and dirty.

Re: 4th gen seat in 3rd gen

i took the bottom apart and cleaned it. no luck. so i hooked jumper cables to it and raised the back up as high as it would go and switched the plugs around. installed an inline fuse and grounded it. it works. the back switch that used to raise and lower the back of the seat will now slide it forward and backwards. thanks for you help

Re: 4th gen seat in 3rd gen

the seat has 3 buttons. the 2 outside buttons look old school like in a caddy and the middle looks like a toggle. i unplugged the toggle, which raises and lowers, and slides forward and backwards, and plugged it into the back old school button. now, the back old school button slides it forward and backwards. the unplugged toggle doesnt do anything if you press it forward or pull it back but if you pull up or press down it will cause the seat to sweep you forward or backwards. it's strange but it works and it's comfortable. i cant complain.

Re: 4th gen seat in 3rd gen

Sometimes identical plugs are used but the wires are arranged differently. All you would have to do to fix it is to pull the wires out of the plugs & insert them back in the correct spots. Or just cut & splice the wires but repinning is cleaner looking & less joints for potential failure in the future,

Re: 4th gen seat in 3rd gen

What BB said.Had a similar issue when I spliced in a ford taurus switch on my stock seat track. The original switch would'nt fit on the t/a seat. The toggle just combines what the two outer ones do.

Re: 4th gen seat in 3rd gen

I put on 4th gen 'bird side mirrors years ago & it was the plugs were like that. Left was right & Right was left. Pulled the wires out of the plug & swapped them in the plug then the switch worked correctly.
