Dash mount rear view mirror / euro sport style
Dash mount rear view mirror / euro sport style
Anyone seen it done in a 3rd gen?
Got a pic or done it your self?
With my notchback I moved the original mirror down a few inches but its just not enough, tired of looking up and down to see more.
Only way to get it in the right spot, is to move the stock mirror at or below halfway down the windshield. Gonna look odd form the outside since, dash mount wouldn't be noticed really. For most part it would look like I had no rear view mirror. [which is legal if you have two side mirrors]

Tried moving the stock mirror down, got the glue for it. Says that its a permanent bond, if you do it wrong, do not remove, glue a new one over top, like its some powerful stuff.
read direction, followed, waited 30 mins, put mirror back on, it fell off windshield, started all over, let it sit 24hrs through a nice warm day, put mirror back on, it fell off, 3rd time I have glued the metal bit on, did it yesterday, gonna wait a week?

1. Tried to re-glue mine it fell off.
2. Took to a windshield glass place 1 day later it fell off.
3. They said the glass had become contaminated and
would never hold a mirror again.
4. Since it had a small crack in the corner they replaced
the windshield and it's all good.

"glass had become contaminated" how does that happen? not like its pouris
Re: Dash mount rear view mirror / euro sport style
How are you cleaning the glass prior to sticking the base back on? What glue are you using? Alcohol wipes are good to clean with. The heat of the sun isn't the best to let them cure in, as it's usually the heat that makes them fall off in the first place.
I've done quite a few mirror re-glues and have never had a problem. I've even removed the windshield from a few afterwards and used the mirror as a handle to move it.

I've used 2 different kinds of glues over the years. One comes in a plastic tube like toothpaste or RTV and dries to a rubbery, silicone-like consistency. I let it set up overnight and the mirror fell off hours after I installed it. The second comes in a small glass vial in a cardboard sleeve with a sponge in one end. You squeeze the vial till the tube inside breaks and the glue soaks the sponge. It dries hard and clear. I've done 3 mirrors with this stuff and have never had a problem with any of them.

3 days and some superglue around the edge has the permatex "sticking" but I don't adjust it without holding the base. if it falls off ill try again with better stuff. nice being able to see people, only way before they had to be right on my bumper.
