new cup holders in the iroc

i had to have some cup holders looked around & didnt see what i was looking for so this is what i came up with some led cup holers from ebay they hold a 24 oz pop i decided i need cup holders more than an ebrake lol i put in a HUmount & some glow gauges while i had it apart started out with carbon fiber vinyl wrap but it didnt turn out so i just took some pics with the lights on & pulled it back out & used body filler & painted it with wrinkel paint what do you guys think??
Re: new cup holders in the iroc
I would have had one cup holder, kept the ebrake and passengers can't drink in the car.
Not a big fan of the neon, a little too rice for my taste.
rice is ok, but add a y and it gets censored?

I like the idea but if I got pulled over and the ebrake was missing there goes my plates for a safety violation. Still great idea but I would have just done 1 as well. Screw the passenger as they can hold on to theirs or no drinking unless its got a cap on it

wow they pull your plates for a safety ticket up there thats kinda harsh around here its a fix it ticket & i would be suprised if they even noticed it was gone i thought about only one but the full size cup holder i still would have to move the switches so i figure if i got to patch the plastic anyway i might as well go for two & just one isnt very passenger friendly & im always looking out for my peeps lol

No offense, but that looks very cheap. They don't fit the space correctly, don't match the design layout at all and really make the look unpleasing to the eye.

Re: new cup holders in the iroc
lol they are cheap $20 each for the cup holders & $12 for the wrinkel paint if it was a ferrari i would worrie about matching the design layout but lets face it these are low budget cars for the most part so i figure for the price of a new console lid from the junk yard it can be back to stock i think the function of having two full size cup holders trumps the lack of design engineering but then again i am a bit of a hillbilly

I just absolutely love this modified panel. Could you give a little more detail on how you rebuilt your panel? You just say body filler, so I take it you mixed up some bondo and used the cloth to build it out? And the hand brake came out fairly easily? Thanks, great finished job.

Re: new cup holders in the iroc
thanks i appreciate that!! the e brake has a screw in the pad take that out & slide it off the end & you can slip the console lid off. the e brake bracket is held to the tunnel with 2 bolts after removing those you can tilt it up & slip the cables out. the holes in the lid & side panel are filled in with plastic, i had a pice that i cut out of the rear cargo cover for a sub that i used. i glued them in place with a two part 5 minute epoxy i got from the auto parts store. the holes for the switches i drilled a hole then used a hand file to square them off, test fitting the switch as i go to get it just to the point where the switch snaps in & locks in place. the cup holders i traced onto card bord & use that to measure where i wanted them. its a fine line on the drivers side to position the cupholder where it doesnt interfear with the lid closing, or the sliding cover on the shifter binding aginst it. but i put it forward to just past where the lid will close & it just clears the strip on the shifter. those i drilled a hole & cut out with an air saw. i also had to notch the shifter plate for the passanger side cupholder & cut that with an air saw. i then did one coat of fiber fill for added strength, thats basicly fiberglass cloth & resin in a spreadable mix you can get at a body/paint supply. i sanded that smooth then finished it off with body filler. i used 3m gold but you could just use any bondo you choose. then prime & scuff, then clean with paint prep thats a greese/wax remover you can get at the paint supply. the paint is vht brand its called wrinkle plus, goes on like regular paint then when its dry you can see the textured look. as close to the factory texture i have seen. the cupholders i used a clear silicone adheasive to secure them, so it will hold them in place but if i ever had to pull them out i can without damaging anything.here are a few more pics you can see where i patched the lid in with the plastic. if you need anything else just let me know
