Custom Illuminated Push Buttons

Hey hey hey.

We had a guy contact us wanting an illuminated STI logo in our push buttons. Apparently, he couldn't find anywhere that supplied such a service. Anyway, we agreed to do it for him. We made some prototypes and we are almost done with the final version.

This got us thinking. Maybe there's a desire for this service and people just don't know where to go to get it done.

So we ask you, fellow f-body guys and gals, does this sound appealing to you? Can you think of times when you wanted something like this, but hadn't seen it before? Do you want it now?

We can do practically any design, with or without the illuminated ring, any color LED, different sizes and also black instead of stainless steel.

Here's a pic of the prototype we made him.

Re: Custom Illuminated Push Buttons

Yes yes yes please! I just got Ann electric exhaust cutout and was looking for two illuminated pushbuttons for it. This is absolutely perfect. What is the price for these?

Re: Custom Illuminated Push Buttons

Pricing depends your spec. The STI guy, for example, wanted a 35mm diameter button made from black stainless steel. It cost him about $70 per button (he ordered three).

Right now, we have in stock the 22mm stainless buttons with the illuminated ring. If you want that button and you just want a simple design, the cost will be about $48.

Here is a preliminary price breakdown: (all prices subject to change)
22mm button: $8
Custom design (up to 5): ~$40 (you can have multiple designs or the same design 5 times)
Black stainless (up to 30 pieces): ~$85

We will certainly order different size buttons for you but the minimum it will cost you is about $30. The STI guy paid $48 for all three.

As you can see, the price goes down the more you order.

Here's an example to make this more digestible:
You want four buttons. All four use the 22mm buttons we have in stock.
Two of the buttons have an eyeball design and the other two have kissy lips.
You want the housing of the buttons to be black but the part that you press to stay stainless.

The price breakdown looks like this:
Buttons: 4*$8=$32
Design: (fewer than 5 pieces)=$40
Black stainless for the housings: (fewer than 30 pieces)=$85
Total: $157
Price per button: $39.25

So there is interest. Yippee! We will start looking into formalizing this process and advertising it on our site.

Here are some pics of the final version. The finishing touches aren't done yet (diffusion of light, permanent assembly, etc), but you get the idea.

The black coating is the same that's used on impact sockets, btw. We are looking into powder coating as well, but haven't done any prototyping yet.

I don't know when I'll get the chance to do this to my car, that I plan on setting up for Drift, but dang, these are nice. A simple IROC-Z logo...MMMmmmm. Maybe even just the Bowtie, more universal. Nice job.

Re: Custom Illuminated Push Buttons

I was looking into your push button start system and I have a question. Once installed, what's stopping someone from stealing your car. If they can get in, they can then just push the button and off they go.

I feel like a key fob that simply emits a signal to the PBS-100 would solve that. Even add key-less entry to that fob would be a nice plus as well. Hell I bet you guys could make a full security system if you wanted to.

The module is enabled (think 'disarmed') and disabled (think 'armed') by an external source. This can be anything from a security system to a hidden switch. We made the PBS-100 really flexible to be able to integrate with practically any security methods used.

True, we could use a key fob to provide independent authentication, but most people already carry around enough keys, dongles and doodads. We don't want to add more keys. We want to do everything sans keys.

We are working on a passive keyless entry system. We could whip up something real quick, but it would be the same stuff that's already out there. We like to make more useful, easier-to-use products and keep pushing the technology forward. Not just do what's already been done over and over.

If you have any more questions or comments about the PBS-100, would you please post them here?
I have copied this post over there already.
