Should these Ebay LED's Work?

Yes there are tonnes of threads about LED's, but most are concerning the SuperBrightLED Site.

I dont have the money to go all out right now, and just want to try out the LED's to see what I like.

Ebay has 20 bulbs for like 10$ or something, and they are from a site that specializes in them, so they cant be that bad.

Either or, I just want to know based on the part specs whether they should fit.

They are 194 T10 bulbs with 5 LED's on each. That should give the 180-360 degree light angle to properly light up the gauge panel and other spots in the interior.

Heres the link. If anyone could verify whether they should work, that would be great. Theyre only 10 bucks so if they dont no biggie.

You dont want the leds with the wire contacts, i bought some to use in the cluster and unless you solder them, they seem unreliable. Look for the leds with actual wide contact pads for the connection instead of that poor wire contact design.

My opinion after ordering and installing the same ones in blue. Half worked tops, some I couldnt even get to work in the cluster after pulling working bulbs out. Switched polarity and the same thing. Just trying to save you the headache.

Re: Should these Ebay LED's Work?

I don't remember what the seller's name was I got my bright white LEDs from for my gauge cluster oh so long ago but I do know they are the wire connection type with 10mm LEDs. They were shipped from Europe, so they took a while to get here. Haven't had a single problem with them unless I put them in backwards, and I think I've had them for close to 10 years now. They're currently in my side marker lights.

Re: Should these Ebay LED's Work?

I have ran the basic red, white, and blue LED's in my 89 with zero problems. They also were the wire type and I did not need to solder them, granted.. I had to do some wire bending to ensure connection on the contacts.

Black Socket 194's - Angle wires facing down through the socket and use fork or other pointy thing to push wire leads onto contacts.

White Socket 194's - If you can get the old soldered bulb out, bend the wire leads up towards the top of the bulb and wrap one around each side of the brass pad that contacts the strip on back of cluster.

Green socket 194's - Take the wire leads and move the wires from their respective sides, and put them onto the side of the plastic bulb housing; as you insert the bulb into the socket, ensure the leads slide into the area where the contacts are.

Be sure to do it 1 by 1, it actually goes a lot faster.
Going off my memory so stay with me.. lol..

Re: Should these Ebay LED's Work?

Rhett86IROC - Thanks for the post, I will refer to it when I go to install the LED's in the spring. Like I said, im probably going to just buy the whites with the better connectors, and the red led's with the wire ones, as I have no idea what Im doing and if I dont like it or if they dont work, then whatever. If they do work, ill upgrade to the better connectors down the road, or if I have no problems, then Ill leave them.

New Question
Multiple threads have people remove the speedometer. Is this 100% neccessary or just something people do to make it easier. I know the other gauges are plug and play, but are the lights on the other side of the white support panel type thing, or are they behind, hence the need to remove the whole cluster. Is there anyway to reach behind the speedometer "face" and pull out the old bulbs and put the new ones in? Ive searched the topic numerous times, but havent found an exact answer, and if anyone has pictures of the process that they could post, or a link to an article that has everything you need to know, that would be great.

Thanks again...
Ben
