I want to swap the interior of a 82 firebird into a 1991, has it been done without major modifications

Seat belts in back are different...
Not sure if early cars had the rear shoulder seat belts...
Otherwise, everything else should be fine..

Should be fine... older cars didn't have air bags, sensor is under console on newer cars, so should have more room...

thanks, I was going to pull out the 91 steering column anyway, I also have the rally dash in great shape you think the instrument panel should fit as well

Re: swapping 82 interior into 1991 firebird
Everything will swap over no problem. you will need to swap everything such as the rear plastic panels to cover the holes for rear shoulder belts, unless you are keeping the 91 rear belt set up. The one part you will need to keep with the 91 is the headliner trim that has the provision for the third brake in the hatch. You will need to swap the entire dash structure, not just fascia. You may find some of the 91 interior parts are valuable since there are a lot less of them.

thanks, that helps a lot, I just finished pulling it out, it's crazy the 82 I'm pulling it from is probably worth more, it's a 5 liter w/400 trans and a posi rear with only 61,000 miles on it

I assumed he was keeping the gauge cluster and wiring in the 91 to match the drivetrain , but now that you brought it up, the 82 steering column could be an issue with that, IIRC it has some unique wiring.

Doubtful, not much desirable about 82 drive trains. 82s in general have some first year issues. Anyway, value on these cars is all about condition. Only a few special models have any collector value.

had a few problems with the shift the 82 has the shift lock on the opposite side had to modify it and cut out the square hole to make it fit and still broke the cable
