Strange lock rod in seat belt
Hi
I've found this weird rod causing me lots of problem in using the passenger seatbelt. Sometimes (not always) when you reach the end of the belt, i.e. when you pull it all the way out, it locks permanently, and there is no way to unlock it. So the belt remains loose so totally useless.
The only way to I've found to fix this is to bypass it, by pulling it out.
Does anybody know its purpose?
THANKS!!

Part of the system that stops the seat belt from becoming to tight while driving. It's a comfort feature. You are not hurting anything in removing it

Its an inertia rod. It swings forward and locks the seat belt reel when you hit the brake hard or sudden stop into a wall! Don't remove it.

It serves the same purpose as your windshield. It keeps your passenger from flying out of your car.
Leave it there, or get it repaired.

Re: Strange lock rod in seat belt
That is not the inertia rod. That's to hold the seat belt from constantly retracting while you drive. It's stickied in our site FAQ section.

It serves no purpose but comfort.

Yeah, that topic talks about that.
I'm pretty sure it's a comfort feature, in fact the pendulum has nothing to do with it, and the bealt still holds firm if you try to angle the pendulum a bit.
I just was wondering that rod's purpose.
The seat belt looks perfect to me even after "bypassing" it.
thanks!!
