Im restoring my 87 IROC 305/ Automatic and having gotten to the point to fixing the interior/ restoring the gauge display. When I took it apart I’m almost positive it had an instrument bezel that all of the dummy light screens had an assignment. However, during this build I’ve purchased 7 of these cars and I think I’ve misplaced or mixed up the bezel. Mine says “Choke” “Upshift” some are blank, etc, I don’t remember those being there.
My questions is how how many different bezels did they have for these things? And where can I get new screens that are compatible with my application?

There were a few different cluster bezels used over the years..... the most important thing about them is that you get one from the correct year "range". From 82-85 the BRAKE warning was on the far RIGHT side. ( Pretty sure it was the right ! ) but starting in 86 the BRAKE warning was moved to the far LEFT. ( if you install the wrong year range cluster into your car there will be a back-lighting and BRAKE indicator conflict. )
IIIRC , most other changes to the cluster bezel happened after 86. Manual cars had a "SHIFT" warning, Carb cars had a CHOKE warning, ( can't remember if the CHOKE indicator was still on the FI cars and just not used,... or if there was no CHOKE at all. ) and 89 cars had a "SECURITY" warning indicator.
Hmm... so I wonder which one I’m supposed to have? Right now when I turn the key on, CHECK ENGINE (right) lights up. When I pull the Emergency brake up, BRAKE (left of column) lights up. There is a spot for “SHIFT” and “CHOKE” as well but this car (TPI) I’m assuming should not have the choke one... I just want the right stuff, lol.
I'm in the same boat. I just got done replacing all the cluster bulbs and I'm confused. I have a "choke" light at startup, in an L98 car. And I have no "brake" light at all. I'm wondering if this bezel was switched out for one from a different year.
Well... I have almost all of the lights to come on. Seatbelt light is correct, check engine light is correct, emergency brake light is correct... soooo the only one I think is weird is I shouldn’t have a “choke” light. I find it odd someone doesn’t have a list of how many different bezels there are and what car they go to.

What lights should I have in an 89 IROC?
All I know is 89’s have a “SECURITY” light and I think it has a water level light too.

You are right.
I spent some time researching this last night. I found that my 89 IROC should have bezel number 10089415, which has the brake light on the far left. The choke light that I'm seeing is supposed to be the security light. The reason I'm not seeing the brake light come on right now is because the bulb is in the upshift light position. My car is an automatic.
I love piecing together the history of old cars. It's like being a detective trying to solve a mystery one clue at a time. Very frustrating, but rewarding once you figure something like this out.
OP, take a look on ebay. There's one of these for sale and the pictures show all the light locations.
non-carb cars may still show a 'choke' light on the bezel but will have no bulb in the socket to show it, same with automatic cars that may have a 'shift' indicator with no bulb there. If the proper bulbs are present and light the correct indicators, you're good.

so mine is actually correct... i was wondering why there were bulbs missing... I thought someone was trying to “fix” the dummy lights lol
Too many times, threads around here just fade away with no real resolution. Hopefully this information helps some of you.
I have a 1989 Camaro service manual and official GM parts manual. According to my manual, 89 cars have bezel number 10089415. I found a NOS part at GM Parts Giant and bought it. This is what it looks like: Correct bezel for 1989 cars
The bezel that was in my car was item number 14028088. I was getting a choke light with the key in the on position and a blank light where my brake light should have been - on the far left - with the key in the run position. Here is a picture of the bezel that came out of my car: Not correct for my 1989 car
My lights now appear to be working and in the correct locations. Hope this helps.
