Carbon Fiber Instrument Cluster Outer Bezel!

I would like to get everyones opinion on my new "carbon" piece. It was done by a friend of mine using water transfer printing. You should see it in person. It looks like a $$pricey real carbon piece.

Re: Carbon Fiber Instrument Cluster Outer Bezel!

So far I have only done that one piece.I plan on doing several other pieces in the future. My friend did that piece for me at a good discount so I could use it as a "sample" to show others at car shows and at the track.I will find out an average cost for this and get back to you. I would really like to get a little more feedback though,so any thoughts on this would be appreciated.

Re: Carbon Fiber Instrument Cluster Outer Bezel!

IMHO it looks like fake carbon fiber. It has no depth to it like real carbon does.

What exactly is "water transfer printing"? I think it looks awesome and would definately set off an interior. Also, what exactly is a good discount?

Re: Carbon Fiber Instrument Cluster Outer Bezel!

It would be one thing if it were real carbon fiber but I don't really see the point in fake carbon fiber parts. I'll be blunt, it's a cool idea but it looks cheesy. That's just my opinion though.

Re: Carbon Fiber Instrument Cluster Outer Bezel!

It looks better in person than the picture.Everyone I have shown it to really thinks it looks good, even my friends that dont like carbon. It also comes in blue, red and yellow. A simple way to describe the "printing" process is that its like dipping an easter egg in the colored water. The egg is plain when it goes in the water and when you pull it out it has color on it.Then the piece is clear coated. It's much more affordable than having a real carbon piece made.I understand the carbon look isn't for everybody, but I like it as a way to do something I have'nt seen a lot of on our year cars.I'm still waiting on a reply from my friend on a price.

I can't believe this popped into my head but you asked for comments and opinions.

I think it looks like the weave of carpet, even kind of like quarter roy pants weave. It also like stated above, does not have the 'depth' real carbon fiber gives, which is what made ME love the look of CF. Its a depth thing.

Re: Carbon Fiber Instrument Cluster Outer Bezel!

Thanks for the info. I found a few places on the internet when I searched for water transfer printing, but pricing is one thing that is difficult to find which leads one to believe it's expensive. I'd definately be interested in getting some stuff done like my dash peices, radio bezel, door trim, etc. It looks really sweet.

Re: Carbon Fiber Instrument Cluster Outer Bezel!

I'm glad I found this thread, I was actually thinking it would be cool to have carbon fiber inner door handle bezels... What is a "discount" for GTA door handle bezels?

Re: Carbon Fiber Instrument Cluster Outer Bezel!

finally got a price from my friend for the piece i did . it would be about $90.00. cost varies by size , complexity, and prep time. best thing to do would be send me a pic so i can get an estimate for the pieces you would want done. Also a little side note,, my piece has the factory "pebble grain"texture. something smooth would have a greater "depth perception" than something textured. textured pieces can be made smooth before application of "carbon",but that is an additional expense.i'm thinking of doing some console pieces next. i will post pics when i have something to show.
