Touchscreen window and door lock control

So I have been working on a new touchscreen control for my 87 GTA. I now have this working to control door locks and window control. Any thoughts? I am still trying to decide where to locate this and if I would want a larger screen. I am still working on mocking up the bezel also.

Looks cool, but it is hard to recommend a spot since we have no idea on the scale of what you have there, no frame of reference.

I have been kicking around the thought of getting rid of the DIC in the digital dash cars and replacing with an Android device to do scan data and what ever else an Android will do, like navigation, music etc...

Currently I'm working with a 3.2 inch display, but I am kicking around the idea of possibly even changing the size.

Re: Touchscreen window and door lock control

If you could update the HVAC box to electric stepper motors to control the functions, then you could get rid of the cab;e and vacuum HVAC controls, and add them to the touch screen. Then, the screen could be larger, taking the place of the radio and HVAC controls (assuming this has audio in it?).

It actually has nothing built in. This is a completely new ground up design using some MCUs to create an embedded system. I will have to create and add all the functionality myself.

Hmmm... additional functionality.

Re: Touchscreen window and door lock control

maybe find a way to recess it into the center console where the window switches and mirror adjuster are?

could draw up a print and see if someone could 3d print a housing for it that screws onto the top of the console, similar to how B&M designed the mega shifter boot plate

Re: Touchscreen window and door lock control

Is this controlling the original lock solenoids and window motors? Is most of the work done using software or hardware? Did you have to add any sort of limit switches or checks? I'm just curious how it actually works.

Re: Touchscreen window and door lock control

It controls the original lock solenoids and motors (I am replacing the relays). I have a safety limit in the window circuits to stop it from trying to keep going when it hits the limits of the window movement (or if you put something or someone in the way of the window).

It is an embedded circuit - basically there is a couple of microcontrollers in there to turn on and off some analog components. I also was able to add a power down delay so that when I shut the ignition off, the windows would be able to function for 5 minutes after (similar to newer cars).
