Help! My cluster was attacked by a Red neck

As you can see the cluster has been rednecked up. It's a 91 RS that came factory with the v6. It now has a 327 SBC and a 700r4 I'm told was taken from an 85. I would like to unredneck my car in one of two ways. Either buy a not cobbled factory gauge cluster or buy an intellitronix cluster. The questions I have are
1. Does intelitronix remedy the inaccurate tach issues
2. Are the pre 91 clusters plug and play with other years with the exception of the speedo.
3. If I ordered the intellitronix cluster would I order for a pre 91 car?
4. Are there adapter kits to make my 85 trans work with a 91-92 cluster?

I don't think your description of a persona is really all that accurate. I've seen people from all walks of life really F up these cars, so I wouldn't put to much into one generalization. In my opinion, just keep it simple and get another cluster. Pretty sure there are 3-4 on Ebay right now.

Where I live red neck'd is just a term for cobbled, sorry if that isn't PC enough. I appreciate your opinion but I was seeking more information so I can replace the cluster. With there being multiple changes to this car I wanted to seek others advice prior to ordering a cluster that isn't going to work for my application.

Re: Help! My cluster was attacked by a Red neck

Does the tach work at all? You can swap the later non cable clusters no problem but you have to stick with V6 cluster for V6 engines and V8s the same way for the tach to work right. Since the speedo is working I'm guessing the cable is still hooked up. I think RBob knows about making mismatched things work? I have a tested good 91 V8 cluster from a V8 but you need more info to make it work and sorry, I don't have that.
Have fun!

As a white man, I will give you a pass to use the R-word.

Re: Help! My cluster was attacked by a Red neck

this was likely done because the swap transmission did not have the electronic speed sender that the original cluster needed.

make sure you have those pieces/parts, they're getting scarce from what I hear...

Re: Help! My cluster was attacked by a Red neck

The only Camaro cluster that will fit in your car is a 90-92 cluster; nothing from 82-89 will work ----> PROPERLY !

If there was no signal converter installed after the engine swap; your current V6 tachometer reading is off by 25% (or was it 33% ?) You would need to use a V8 tach or install a tachometer signal converter.

To correct this "hackery" you'll need a 90-92 electric tranny VSS, ( made for automatic: the correct version so the proper plastic speedo gears fit & match the rear end gearing ) and a V8 cluster.

Yeah, John in RI is the one I meant to refer to as the guy who knows how to get this working if anybody does. OOPS, mental lapse from too much time sitting on the couch in my bathrobe, eating bon bons and watching TV. Yawn...

On the other hand, this is a shining example of the "I'm offended" persona

Cluster problem threads are certainly the kinda' threads that I post into all the time. Dealt with a lot of conversions, customs installs and swaps 'along the way' and it's a topic I'm lucky enough to be able post (a little) experienced & (usually) accurate feedback about.

Re: Help! My cluster was attacked by a Red neck

There are other aftermarket places besides intellitronix that you can go to for new gauges. It really depends
on the route that you want to go. John in RI is actually working on an item for me right now since I wanna
keep a stock look. If you want something different you could look into other vendors that sell aftermarket parts
or you can do a 4th gen swap. Each has their pros and cons and at the end of the day its your car.

Hey I just stumbled on this thread and have some questions,,, have a 92 RS that i just got a couple of months ago... just after I got i noticed the Odometer quit but speedo works. yesterday the speedo quit working for a couple of miles and then started working again. I am not familar with this system at all as I previously thought it was a mechanical unit...
What or where do i need to go to remedy this?

You know, if you guys didn't name yourselves 'Kentucky KITT car' and 'Bucky the Badger' then it might be easier to take you seriously when you two argue about the use of the word red-neck.
