Hey everyone, I have the factory cloth seats from my 88 GTA.
They need to be re-done. Does anyone sell a leather kit I could swap them to?

Finding a clean set of 4th gen leather seats has been difficult or I'd just do that.

 

Real leather? Thats bookoo bucks. Classic sells the hampton vinyl set. Hawks also sells a similar kit.

 

Ah cool, I can look into those two - I'm not needing anything super crazy nice, just a set to move away from the old faded cloth.

 

Lethal interiors (or something like that) can do them in leather. Think there's a bit of a wait list right now tho

 

Ive had them redone in vinyl by local upholsterers before. Shouldn't be hard to find someone.

 

Is that an option? From what I've read she uses the same type as Hampton vinyl. Something called synthetic leather.

 

Vinyl is sticky in hot weather , cold in cold weather. I would see if one of the Camaro parts sellers has "Duplicate of original" upholstery kits and order OE style cloth or "leather seating surfaces" /vinyl trim upholstery.

My son and I installed these kits on several older Ford truck, bench seats, and one 1996 1996 Impala SS, front and rear. it is pretty easy to do. Lots of youtube videos to view. Your basically taking photos for recollection, cutting hog rings, inspecting frames, springs, etc. repairing/replacing foam, as needed. (Have some burlap fabric (fabric store) on-hand to put between springs and foam(as applicable).

I learned to do this by finding an upholsterer willing to work, at $50 per hour, with me helping. He has / had a "one man" shop and it worked out well! This was doing a leather kit, on my 1988 Lincoln mark VII LSC, with "sport" front buckets/rear bench.

 

Princess(Lethal Interiors) can make them out of any material the client wants: leather, faux leather, cloth, even zebra skin if that's what the client wants. Seriously, anything the customer is willing to pay for, she can get it and do it.

Or you can search for and purchase materials yourself and send them to her. However, as mentioned, she's very backlogged and the wait is long.

For something to simply make old, worn seats look better, it will be quicker and simpler to get a readymade faux leather(Hampton Vinyl) kit and install it yourself.

Leather Hide Store, linked above, is one of Princess' leather sources. She was their "Upholsterer of the Year," or something like that, a year ago or so. Prices are good, selection of colors and styles is amazing, and there are always a lot of low-priced closeouts. For leather, that's where to shop.

I purchased leather from there and had it shipped directly to her. Somehow, I get emails intended for her that show new products lol. Then I sent her super-custom leathers I already had, along with some OE fabric I've had stashed away too. She's been working on a custom project for me for a few years now. Custom upholstery for custom built seats. Not her usual thing. So mine gets done a little at a time, in and out of all of YOUR regular projects. So y'all been gettin' yours way before I'll get mine, which is fine by me. She and I have built-up a nice rapport over the last few years. She's awesome, has a great sense of humor, and she's busy as... you know what... so I'm cool with my wait. She's working her fingers off for all of us.

But like I said in response to this thread, if someone is looking for something simple to make old seats look better, like it sounds like the OP is, then a readymade kit in Hampton Vinyl is probably your best and most affordable option at this time.

The cloth seats are much more comfy / less slidy around-y and so much cooler in the summer.

Think about that.

I'll probably go along the path that LAFireboyd recommended as I don't need some crazy nice leather setup, just looking for something along the lines of what Hawks sells with Hampton Vinyl.

Just need to find what color I'd like
