92 camaro hatch pull down issue

92 camaro hatch pull down motor makes noise when I push down on the tab but the assembly does not move.
Kinda sounds like a loud hum coming from the assembly with no movement. Tried to move the assembly up and down by hand when the motor runs, When doing that the noise will get quieter but still no movement. Im sure I will need to open my wallet for a fix but I can only find parts for a 91 and earlier, nothing for a 92. What is the difference from 91-92? I can open and close hatch with key but it is a loose fit and not closed properly.

92 used a completely different style pull down than the 86-91

Thats what I am understanding. Can I convert to a 91 style? Or does anyone know where to get the correct 92 parts? I already checked hawks and a few other vendors with no luck. Thanks

It sounds like the plastic gears are worn out.

Somebody was selling one here awhile back.

Thanks, I did read on this site that the 91-92 share the same gear, I was hoping someone could confirm that b4 I start throwing parts at it

86-91 uses a different mounting bracket so in order for you to switch units you would need the mounts along with the pull-down

The plastic gear is the ONLY part that's identical between the two units. My 88 has the "old" unit and my 92 has the "new" unit and both of them had a stripped/broken plastic gear a while back. So I know for sure that they are identical.

Thanks for the info, I found old threads on this site that does confirm that they use the same gear. Thats the only part that they share.

Go over to Top Down Solutions and get an upgraded housing unit, they have metal frame for reinforcement. The one I bought was Part# 300310 for $123. Included are the nylon guides, the gear nut, new style reinforced motor housing and a packet of synthetic grease. If your motor is still good they have a unit without the new motor and the kit is a little cheaper.

This doesn't work for the 91.5 to 92 cars.

You could buy the Latch assembly hatch pull-down unit from the 88-91 and use the previous part mentioned, Part is like $35 and you wont have to worry about finding the parts, if that helps.
