I've had two alternators seize on me in 6 months. Any ideas what could've caused this? One time just seemed like a fluke, but I don't like the pattern that's developing. Any advice would be much appreciated.

 

Both the same brand?
New or reman?

 

Vbelt or serpentine setup?

 

Don't purchase the cheapest alternator brand?

 

U get what u pay for; cheap = junk!

 

Take your OG to an alt shop, get it done.

Exactly how are your alternator problems any kind of interior problem?

Methinks the engine or electrical subforums here woulda been a better venue for you issue.........

 

Shot in the dark guess - belt too tight.

 

Have you had the black bracket off? There's a part of it that attaches to a studed bolt on the #2 Intake runner where it meets the manifold. If it's come off or not attached properly it will throw the angle off for the top mount bolt on the alternator. I'm speaking for 1987 where the alternator mount ears are centerline set. If that is the case, you could load up the bearing in a way it would not like.
