LTX and LSX Putting LT1s, LS1s, and their variants into Third Gens is becoming more popular. This board is for those who are doing and have done the swaps so they can discuss all of their technical aspects including repairs, swap info, and performance upgrades.

So i dropped my car off at ThirdGenResource Today.......

very true, but i probably have 4 thousand invested into my engine, including ever last nut and bolt.
and i can take an ls1, even from a roll
and my engine is brand new

$600 bucks later, i can have a nitrous kit too, with all the goodies.
add a t-56 to the cost, $2000.

and im at 6600.
thats $3400 dollars cheap.
that is ALOT of money to me.

plus the sense of accomplishment you get when you finish a big project on your own.

given that flyin is going to have a fast car when he is done, no doubt about that, but i just wouldn't have done the same.

im kinda with scottland on that....

while i understand the other 4-5k is going for someone to do the work, as a do-it-yourselfer, i see that as kinda high..

for that price, you could get a lil more... like a modded LS1 or a few other things....

but ah well..

atleast it'll be swift... but i cant help to think, at that price, i could have a badass daily driver thats faster then a LS1... ah well.

still, great job.

Congrats bro, I think thats the way ill go on my Iroc also(LS1/AUTO). About the purge on both sides a friend of mine tried that with his trans am (used the original vents the newer trans am have on the lower front fenders and the distance was actually to long for the purges to work properly. I guess thats why many people put them near the windshield, who knows maybe it will work great on yours? Man I wish I hit the lotto like you (j/k) no but seriously I do have some money saved up. The problem is I dont know what would be better, pay of my 2001 GMC Sierra (damn monthly payments)or fix my Iroc. Either one will benefit me but only one will bring a bigger smile to my face

New fenders and a stock 82-90 Z-28 lip spoiler and maybe your car will not be so hideous until then, lets just see those under hood pictures

I'm a 19 year old college student that lives in an apartmnet, doing the swap myself was out of the question......especially working 40 hours a week and going to school 16 credit hours.....

Something faster could have been built for less money, as stated in the thread where i suggested a 350 TPI w/ supercharger, it was mentioned several times, that a common buildup would be good, but with a custom car, a custom engine would top things off.....

That $10,000 also includes the following, not just the engine/tranny and labor....

STB
SFC
NOS kit (purge, remote opener)
3.42 Posi Disc Rear
Air intake w/ K&N

Along with the custom exhaust work, and installation on all the above named items....

Not to mention the improved gas mileage of 30 mpg on the highway will help to offset some of the cost.....

Hey flyin low.. Nice car dude But I have to ask you ?? You seem like you are definetly mechanicly inclined with all the mods you've done to your ride .Have you looked into a ram jet 502 for your maro The last time I looked a complete set up was under $9g for a brand new motor with a warranty..? Are you getting a warranty with the new work performed on your car??I don't know man but 10 g seems to be alot for what you are getting .I understand that the fabrication is costly but have you looked into other alternatives?? Superchargers-turbos-etc..

I looked into alternatives, but in the end the LS1 seemed to be the best choice for a "show" car that i plan to build.........Plus i wanted a no hassle stock engine that produced alot of power.......LS1 fit this template, and still is rare in the thirdgen community

Roy is standing behind all the work he does to my car.......

Don't worry the engine modding is not by any means done.........Give me a year or two and this baby will have twin-turbos on it.......then the traction will go straight downhill.....

What are the horsepower gains you are expecting with this swap?? As I recall the ls-1 in stock form was somewhere in the 290-320 horses in the ss maros and ram air ta's is that the power you want to acheive ?? Or how about a complete bolt on procharger ps2 with intercooler and a 6 speed swap on a rebuilt l-98 would still be under 10 g and would produce a reliable 450 horsepower ....This is what I am concidering for my gta I just finished the bottom end (l98) with a stroker kit now I am looking into forced induction ..procarger ps2 or single turbo which still puts my build in the 5-7k range this leaves me some money for a new moser 12 bolt rear and a race ready 700r4....I gots to say though that I respect that you want to build a sweet sleeper but there are so many different options for our f-bodys now ..good luck dude and let us know how it turns out...Dyno before---after

Get a SLP Loud-Mouth to top off the car. You'll love the exhaust sound as a 19 year old. Also, while in there, might as well throw in a mild cam and change the oil pump so you won't have to do it later. I believe the LS1 was the best choice and glad you chose it. With just a mild cam, you should be able to hit mid 12's pretty easy with drag radials.

The vent idea sounds cool. I had the idea long ago to have a system purge through the nose of a ram air hood, considering the openings look like nostrils to begin with I thought itd be pretty cool. Too bad I have a camaro and I think ram air hoods look WAY out of place on them. The fact that I don't have nitrous doesnt help me either

LS1's were underrated from GM at 345 HP. Many times they put that to the wheels.

As far as 10k for that? I think its worth every penny. Espically when someone else is doing it. Its really not a bad deal when you consider the rear is also a part of that.

I know you will be happy with how it turns out. If 10k can't make ya happy, so be it.

I can't wait to see pics of it finished!

Even though I heard about these plans before and know you are going through with them, it still seems so unreal becuase its such a radical thing to do, especially for a college student. Thats going to make for a serious thirdgen.

Talk about having something to brag about.

Don't forget he will have that 100 shot as well.

And why not go with lower gears? I'd go with like 4:10s probably.

To each hes own. One thing is for sure FLYNLOW92rs once you start going to the race track and hitting good numbers(low 12 probably 1/4mile). People are going to wonder if that wing actually makes the car go faster, lol, and want one.

i actually dont even mind that style wing i mean its a rwd car its going to serve a function. But that specific wing i dont like its too wide for the car and really disrupts the line of the car.

There is a VID around with a 4th gen TA i believe purging on a civic in a parking lot. Also, at Englishtown a few years back i saw a mustang cobra with its kit coming out of the snake's mouth on the side fenders. Pretty cool.

The following was copied Directly from ls1.com.....

Question 6-9: How much horsepower does the LS1 really have?

Answer: GM's 305hp rating is extremely conservative, they didn't want the LS1 f-body to steal any of the Vette's thunder, however it's commonly known that the F-body's LS1 makes pretty much the same 345hp as the Vette's. They generally put out the same hp to the rear wheels.

ok someone above posted that somestock ls1s are putting 345 to the wheels.

put down the crack pipe.

the lucky few stock ones are putting down over 300, and that is usually with a air box lid.

most are putting down 280-290. autos usually less, manuals usually more. the '01-up are usually put down about 5hp. most attribute it to the LS6 intake, which was mainly used to fix the PCV problem with the early ls1s.

so 280-290. 300 completly stock is rare, 345 to the wheels is out of the question.

a stock bottom end LS1 with fully ported heads, long tubes, open exhaust (cut-outs) and a nice fat cam, usually puts down about 380ish horsepower @ 6500rpm to the wheels.

not too shabby.

just wanted to clear up any misinformation.
i've said it before, there is nothing magical about the LS1, its a GREAT factory motor, and a step in the right direction, but 345hp to the wheels stock

I think we need to get the facts straight. An average STOCK LS1 car will put down around 290-295 ish to the wheels if an auto and about 305-310ish if a manual. My conservative heads/cam LS1 puts down about 430 RWHP. 380 is more like a mild cam only car.

that sounds about right to me, everything else seemed a bit off.

And for the ls1 hp numbers the ls1 in the vette makes 350 hp at the engine so 290-310 rwhp sounds right.

At ThirdGenResource in North Carolina

I was given a tentative date of Feb. 14th, so we'll see, I'm not rushing him mainly because i want a quality job and am willing to give him the time to get it done.......

I'm gonna give the 3.42's a shot first, if things go downhill with those, then i might upgrade to a 3.73, we'll have to see later down the road.......

Although I did change my mind about something, I'm not going with MAC SFC's anymore, I decided to go with the Spoohn SFC's, save a little more money, and from what i hear, they work just as well.......

LUVmy92: Well thought out plan, although you might find my car engineless at the present moment, wait a few weeks.....

1 month and some odd days....:lala:
