I wonder why they didn't drop the front subframe like they did Jason's 91' Z28 for his ZZ4 Swap.

I observed that, too. It may be that they discovered how to obtain the clearence they need using a different style motor mount. I'd say "maybe because the SS hood has more clearence", but the vert had an SS hood, too. Hopefully an STB will be no sweat.

Now where was I..... ah yes, pooping my pants with glee & envy

You mean the k-membor i have no idea why they would drop that in a third gen. The ls1 will have plenty of room for the stb.

I will scan the invoice I get from ThirdGenResouce when i pick up the car and post it on this site, for people to see and get an exact amount of how much the swap costs........

It's not something that is cheap, I'll stress that right now.......I would suggest setting aside at least $10,000 for a nice clean swap with a few goodies also.......

Have they set the motor in the engine bay yet?

If you want to run AC with your stock K-member, you are going to have to have them notch it for the LS-1's AC compressor.

Awesome! Looking good. By the way, is it better to bolt or weld in the new motor mounts?

I would go with welding on that one...unless you think there might be a problem with positioning..in which case you could tac weld and double check

Yes, the motor is in the car, but no picutres of it have been sent to me yet.....

$1,875 for the labor is the estimate that i was given, but i'm not sure if that will be the final number i get when all is said and done.....so i don't want to throw out any numbers until i get everything finalized with the correct information

BTW that's labor for EVERYTHING...

Remove 305 TBI
Remove Transmission
Remove Rear End

Install LS1
Install T56
Install New Rear End
Install New fuel pump
Install all the other stuff as well (STB, SFC, Nitrous)

You forgot the exhaust work too! lol j/k man, thats not a bad price really. You figure if they spend a solid 40 hrs on the car and all of the work, it equates to about $50/hr, which tends to be the norm. I also figured in the price for the wheels. Did you buy them from them too or no?

I would think that now would NOT be the time to get rid of VATS... I almost had my '88 bird stolen once (they tried to steal it from in front of the shop I was going to put my new trans in the next day) and its a scary enough feeling when they don't succeed. Granted, you're not doing the work yourself so it probably wouldn't have as much of an emotional impact, but that would be a lot of $$$ down the tube if it ever got stolen... I'd keep VATS as a precaution or at least put a kill switch in it or something...

I feel much more comfortable with my '91 GTA and VATS...

yeah its carpeted in the back.

i had the backs out of my 86 to avoid playing taxi..worked great til people figured out having no back seats gave em more headroom. dammit.

the buckets arent all that uncomfortable without the seats, you just have to watch out for this little 3-4" piece of round bar the seatbacks hook to.

thats the only thing aside from where the tops mount to the sides of the car that you can see.

LOL, yeah, I had the upper back seat out, with the lower seats in, and everyone loved it. Just gave them a lot more room.

The wheels are on top of the $10,000 that i'm paying them......so figure about $12,000 total for everything......Then the gas to get there, the misc expenses of travel and what not.......It adds up real quick.....

You must loose VATS to get the LS1, I don't know a single person who has done the swap and kept it.....

You forgot the exhaust work too! lol j/k man
Oh yeah, custom fitted exhaust should be in that estimate too....

Everyone flips out over the price and tells me i paid WAY too much, but when you sit down and actually crunch the numbers, it comes out right, and in some cases i got some discounts...

I suppose i could squeeze $20 out of my pocket to get them replaced.......

That will probably make the engine bay look better then the LS1 will.....:lala:

Don't forget the failed attempt to spray paint the caps of those discolored tanks the same color as my car.......(Back in those Fast & Furious inspiried days......).....No idea what i was thinking....

It is pricey, but if you are not willing or able to do the work on something like this and you do not know anyone or are not in the "business", it will get expensive! That is what sucks, there is no set price on a lot of stuff like this, so people can put whatever price they want on "custom" work. Only thing the consumer needs to worry about in the end is, if they are happy, and if the work will hold up as well as the mechanic's word, and if they will back it 100%. So, any ETA when it will be done?

Unless they're stupid your VATS should still work to disable your starter relay, the vats just needs to be disabled in the LS1 computer which only controls the fuel injectors.

Wow, I'm so jealous of your car. I'd take it with the wing any day. I'd say the days of the thirdgen being "that rusted out ******-wearing-*******-driven 80's wannabe-sportscar" are numbered, with many thanks to FLYNLOW, tpiroc, crazyhawaiian, and a whole slew of others here.

YEEEEEEEEHAWW!!... uh, I mean NICE JOB!

My gas tank never got fixed for the recall........And it suffered from fire damage on the neck.....the baffle inside was broken.....

It's lighter and holds more gas too.....

Yep I beleive the 4th gen tank is a plastic-synthetic type material, probably a little lighter and won't rust

Can't wait to see what this thing looks like when it comes out

Do a search on the boards, info is posted.....

BUT, you will find that dealerships won't honor it anymore because it's over 11 years old.......I believe there is a time frame in which they no longer have to honor a recall.......They didn't fix mine.....

they can make VATS work. they SHOULD make it work. its pretty damn effective.

Very nice to see you're adding some go to the show and whoa! I keep going back and forth on whether or not to dump 10 grand on my car too. 10 grand is only a down payment on a new car, but it can make one hell of a 3rd gen!!!

The LS1 tanks from 99+ got a partially rubber neck right by the tank, too. That'd be cool, but hopefully with the walbro I'll never have to drop it again.

Hope it all works out for you man

I have not recieved any pictures from Roy, but he says he does have them and will e-mail them to me whenever he gets his computer fixed......

He also said he would get back to me to see if VATS can be programmed back into my computer systems.......Waiting on a call from the people that are doing the harness....

No updates other then they are waiting on the harness to arrive.....

The SFC's and STB are probably both going on the car this week....

Only things left as of yesterday are STB, SFC, Wiring Harness, Nitrous, Vette Fuel Rail Covers, Air Intake(doing myself).......hopefully no more then 2 weeks......It's already been 5 weeks......

Get ready to feel the wrath of non-third gen related picture police!!! Especially non-work safe pictures like that. Thanks for posting it though.

Do they have any more information available on the fuel tank swap? All I could find in the searches were people talking about doing it. Nobody ever reported finishing a tank swap that I could find...

you need it because an LS1 has a return line for the fuel. where our tanks do not. BTw what exhaust is going on the lS1. ewhat headers.

because u have gotten me kinda jump to find an LS1 and T56.
before i buy a 383/afr/HSr and th700 for my car

cause i'm allready looking at close to 7grand for my new motor and tranny ideas. but if they could swap them out for that kinda money i would get an LS1.

Wrong. You do NOT need a 4th gen gas tank to use the LS1. You need an Aeromotive Fuel Pressure Regulator and your set...
