ls1 exhaust??

what are people running for exhaust on ls1 swaps. i went all out with 1 3/4 long tubes, 3 inch y-pipe and a 4inch pipe up over the axle. everything fits great, except one side of the y-pipe. im thinking i want to change this, not only for the y-pipe, but this thing is extremly loud.

what is everyone using for a quite, sleeper exhaust on ls1's? or did everyone do what i did, go big, bad and way to loud??

Mines not an LS1, but an LT1 and I can say I went with 1 5/8 shorties into a 2.5" y-pipe, going to a 3" i-pipe to a flowmaster for a 4th gen and it actually sounds good, doesn't sound like a flowmaster and is quiet inside the car, and not too bad outside until I get on it. It actually sounds like a 3rd gen with a 305 TPI with a 5-speed

thats exactly what i use to have on my 357 and i really liked it, but i was told i needed bigger.

5.0, does the gmmg exhaust have chambered mufflers? what size? i had the car out for about 4 hours last night in town and cops didnt have a problem, but i sure did.

do you guys think a borla muffler would be quiter then the dynomax race version i have now?

I'm running 2001 manifolds, locally fabricated Y-pipe with dual superflow converters and Hooker 3" catback. I live in a sub-division and its boarderline loud, but in traffic I think it could be a little louder. Maybe an electric cutout is in my future...

GMMG only has chambered exhaust, but prepare to pay out the ying yang for it, 700 without the tips, and another 130 or so for their tips and from what I've seen, no i-pipe, just to where it goes over the axle and the mufflers.

However, I will own a GMMG for mine down the road though, nothing sounds like it.

3" I.D. Stainless Intermediate into true dual transverse chambered sections with dual 2 3/4" I.D. polished angle cut tips

Their site is http://www.gmmginc.net

yea it does sound amazing, screams with my long tubes. As for the price it is expensive but it is stainless steel so that automaticaly puts you in the same price catagory as borla and corsa. I got mine in GP on ls1tech.com, payed 600 shipped so that wasnt to bad.

You could always make your own. They use Stainless works chambered mufflers. Stainless works makes some for Summit to sell under their name, like 120 bucks a piece, weld up the tail pipes and make the piece that goes over the axle, and boom...same thing as GMMG for less.

Exactly... I might be doing this with my car. Shouldn't be too hard. Sounds great!

I have Ceramic coated and max ported 02 manifolds with my own custom made 2.5 Y-pipe into the stock exhaust just before the cat. Its nice and quiet, but has a nice sound when you stand behind it. I will eventually do something different... something like pskel350, sounds like a plan.

i have a heads cam car.. running thru stock 02 manifolds.. a y-pipe with 2.5" pipe out to a flowmaster 80.. i guess its pretty loud.. well louder then idle.. theres no rasp tho, which is nice as my old 350 used to pop on the decel.. its loud as hell under accel tho.. i would hate to see it with long tubes and a 4" out back

i would like your setup much more tho.. i feel its majorally holding my cam and heads back.. no flow

Yea ive been searchin through there tryin to match up my setup to someone on there, unfortunatly pacesetter doesnt make a cat back for 4th gens, so I dont think anyones run an ls1 through a pacesetter muffler. Just have to see when it turns out.

i finally finished mine pat, 1 3/4" one piece stainless lt's, 3" y pipe and i stuck with 3" all the way out back. i didn't use a cat but i did put 2 silencers in line with the flowmaster muffler i took back from you just to see what will happen. tried to make it as quiet as possible. we'll see how it does on the dyno today.

currently:

stock 02 fbody manifolds into a custom Y pipe, stock 99 camaro muffler/tips.... sounds exactly like a stock 4thgen.

next week:

custom longtube headers
Y pipe clearance made with dual exhaust trans crossmember
dual electric cutouts, one behind each header
stock 99 camaro muffler/tips..

nice and quiet to drive around with... insanely loud with the cutouts open.

That was my plan but you'll see that there isn't any room behind those longtubes for electric cutouts. That was my original plan and I don't feel like trying to make it work now. I do have to 2.5" electric cutouts for sale though. I think I'm just going to make mine loud all the time now.

what did you use for silencers?? my new 3.5" exhaust is on the way now, which is what i was supposed to get the first time around but they messed up. we are trying out a new x-member and new y-pipe....and then which ever exhaust sounds better and fits best i will keep then.

very similar to what i had on my gtp, i'll try to get a part number but i got them through imco with the rest of the tubing. for the cross member i reused the auto so i just had to modify my stock one which surprisingly ended up nice. this setup is strictly reliable/daily so i wasn't trying to get to crazy.

What are you guys doing to make your custom long tubes? How much cheaper is it thatn just buying Hawks long tubes? I think they are $750 without the y-pipe.

well, my total cost was around 320 just for the headers, so a lot cheaper then hawks, but a lot more work, which i can do at the shop myself and save a lot of labor costs....

Thats cool. Do you happen to have any pictures of them? I also heard of people taking big block headers and taking an LS1 flange and making them that way. I think I might be interested in your long tubes if you end up not wanting them like you were saying.
