LS1 with a 3rd gen v6 tach

I was thinking about this b/c I'm ordering my tach converter box for my LS1 swap. My tach right now reads to 8k with a 5500 redline. I was thinking that the v6 cars had a higher redline (6000 or 6500) and a higher overall reading too. If that is the case, couldn't you just use one of those tachs and adjust the tach converter to make it work? I think it would be kinda cool. I guess it doesn't really matter anyways because I'll be shifting it at 6800 or so.

The V6 tachs are 8k with a 6k redline. I just changed the face on mine to this, thought it was more appropriate for the LT1 and it's within a couple hundred RPM of what it's actually turning.

Sweet. That looks like it will work out great! Too bad I can't find one with a 6500 or 7000 redline.

What kind of converter are you buying? If you get a Dakota Digital SGI-8, you can easily change it yourself, so that if later down the road you find a tach that you would rather have, you could change it, instead of having to order it that way. I too have thought about a V-6 tach since mine redlines at 5K. When I do this, I just change the DD box from a 8cyl output to a 6 cyl.

I've got the SGI-8 for my speedo... I had it before because I used to run a 355TPI with a T56 and used it then. Now I'm buying a baker's electronic tach converter off ebay. $40... I paid the $10 extra so I could adjust it for any tach/cylinder combo I'd ever run. I did that because I'm going to run my stock v8 tach for now but probably a factory v6 tach when I can find one.
