LS1 exhaust driver side routing
LS1 exhaust driver side routing
The car is an 89 Camaro RS (originally V6). Now it has a LS1 4L60E .
All the thirdgen LS1's how did anyone manage to get the drivers side manifold / downpipe routed correctly. Right now I have a problem, its either too low and hits the ground or its too close to the subframe and hits the subframe on a launch. Its routed right below the brake pedal. I can't take it in as the transmission crossmember gets in the way.
Does anyone know / have any pictures on how the exhaust is routed on the drivers side? and still keep 2.5" or bigger pipe?.
Thanks

Thanks. I tried searching that with no results.
I usually get everything I am looking for on this website by searching, I tried different things like "LS1 exhaust", "Exhaust", etc..some yeild too many results ...some yield none.

I thought that was for a T56 with a different crossmember.

sorry, it was 5:00 and i was running out the door at work when i saw your thread.
yes, i mean his crossmember... athough i didnt notice lastnight that you have a 4L60E, not a T56....
theres 3 ways to do it.
one is like hawks does it... it goes down off the drivers manifold, out, and way around the drivers side before coming back and meeting the Y behind the transmission.
one is do go under the trans.. that is LOW and overall sucks to live with unless your car is taller then stock.. lol.
the other way is with a custom or modified crossmember that allows the exhaust to pass thru it. it then meets the Y after the transmission... this is the way i like best because it eliminates bends and length from the exhaust while retaining ground clearance.. however its also the one that requires fabrication, so it isnt done as often.

I currently have it like how hawks does it. The pipe comes down and goes outside towards the door / lower side skirt....then bends inward after the transmission.
The problem with this setup is at one point the pipe is so close to one of the frame pieces that whenever I torque the engine it hits. I will try to take some pics and post em today of my setup.
Is there someone selling this custom crossmember ??. (3rd method you were talking about.)

Yeah, I'm running a xmember from "drews"... just make sure it is "drews" you are PM'ing and NOT "drew". Anyways, here's how mine turned out with a T56, that xmember, SW LT's, and a custom y-pipe. TONS of ground clearance!

Yeah, drop the exhaust to pull the tranny... no big deal. The only thing I don't like about my setup is its only 2.5" and kinda restrictive... it will be changed shortly though. The other thing is that the stupid muffler shop welded it all together except for at the collectors.
*As for 4th gens... I've done clutch swaps and NOT removed the y-pipe... its more than possible
