Shifter Location Woes :(
Has anyone else had a problem with the location of their shifter? I just got my car back from the shop and I'm thinking they did a real ****ty job installing the LS1 and T56. I got the motor mounts and crossmember from Hawks (only ones who offered them in black). The shifter is so far to the right that I can't put the boot on.

5th, 6th, and R can only be used when the shifter cover plate and boot are not on but it will go in. I took a look under the car and the tranny is bolted into the middle hole but there is a hole to the left and right of it. How exact does the lineup of the tranny to the axel have to be? In other words, can I move the tranny over the the left hole to make more room?
The did have to cut some of the tunnel to get it in there since its so far right.
Do they make shifters that are bent to the side? Lol

My Spohn crossmember worked like a charm, but I also cut the hole in myself.

Was the car originally a 5-speed or automatic?

when I installed my T-56 the stock lower boot gets stretched pretty good in 5th, 6th, and reverse, and the shifter contacts the console just a bit, but nothing too major. not sure why yours would be so far over.

5 speed. My dad suggested I get some longer bolts and put a aluminum spacer in there to move it over. where it's at is not going to work, short of moving the transmission over a hole I don't know what else I can do.

It's very possible they put the tranny in the wrong hole on the crossmember. I believe I have mine in the far left hole and it lined up perfect.
As for the boot stretching, it did until I put the Hurst shifter on, now it isn't stretched at all in any gear.
I went back and read, you ment the rubber boot on the bottom, I used a 6-speed boot from a 4th gen that goes to the tranny tunnel.

Me and my friend had the same problem in his car so we made a off set braket of 3/16'' flatbar and it fixed the problem.

Yes, I have the exact same problem w/ my T-56. I also used the Spohn crossmember. Under the car, my tranny goes through the furthest hole on the passenger side. If you look at you shifter stick tho, it is perfectly center with the car, but the E-brake set-up is a little diffent on our cars than 4th Gen.

Strange, Klortho said his was in the far left hole (drivers side), mine is in the middle and yours is on the far right (passenger's side)? I would think the angle of the axel to the rearend should be the same for all of us, yet we are all using different mounting holes? Was there any worry of binding on the axel for you Klortho? That is all that is holding me back from moving it to the drivers side hole.

I have an LT1 as well, but shifter is in the exact same location as yours. I would not force it into any other hole than it is intended to be in, that may cause more problems. I think yours is sitting right because as I said, if you look at the console as a whole, the shifter is sitting dead center, just the E-brake takes up the right side half.
