LT1 PS line and PS sensor question

You don't use the PS sensor/switch thats on the high pressure line like you do on some of the thirdgens, right? I'm using caprice LT1 lines and there is a "T" in it and i had the switch connected there instead of leaving the bolt there. The PS whines.

I have no sensor. If it whines it is either low, needs bled or the pump is going bad.
Apparently we are the only ones online right now.

I filled fluid to the top and it was better. I'm going to try "bleeding" the ps line and making sure all the hoses and connections are tight. Then deleting that switch once I find a replacement bolt.

My local hardware store (ACE) should have the bolt. And if its too long i'll cut it, then rethread it. And remember to put on the o-ring also, I remember there being one.

A little bending by hand, with the lines out of the engine bay, then puting the lines back in to test to fit, repeat. I have heard impala LT1 lines fit with no problems but dont know for sure. I recommend getting 95 caprice or impala LT1 lines, probably from a 1995 car. O'reileys should have the caprice line for around $35. Its the high pressure line you need. For the return line, you just get a few feet powersteering hose.

An upgrade LT1 Powersteering Pump I came across from Turn One. I might consider it if my pump goes out, seems to be running ok though now. The price is kind of high though.

I was able to use LT1 Caprice lines with no bending. The only thing I don't like about my setup is that the PS line runs through the S-belt, so if I want to replace my belt, I have to unhook one of my PS lines, then bleed the system. I figure I shouldn't need to change my S-belt too often though.

yes, but the threads aren't even catching. the fitting is able to go all the way in passed the head of the fitting. the only thing i can think of is that oreillys gave me the wrong one??? i'll have to check on that tomorrow.

but the return line form the steering box, you just used p/s hose...did you take the stock fitting off the line to attach the hose or what?

did you try screwing on the hose with the power steering pump out of the car? You might have to bend the line, if the line is not dead-on (or straight-on) with the ps pump it probably won't screw on.

For the return line - I used power steering hose and hose clamps.

I bought the return line from the LT1 Caprice as well, its pretty cheap and the screw on connection seems pretty secure.

For the reservior line, you need a 3/8" power steering hose. None of the normal auto parts stores carry this, so you will need to call some hydraulics shops or truck parts stores. Do not attempt to use radiator hose, as it will eventually fall apart and ruin you ps pump.

Or for the reservoir-to-pump line, if you dont already have one, could order one from gm...

yeah, i have it out right now. i can push the fitting from the line into the pump without having to turn the fitting....there is no way this fits. that's why i think it has to be the wrong thing. unless the '93 LT1's have a different pump??

i figured it out. there is a fitting that goes between the pump and the line. this fitting came out when i removed the stock line. i had to dig around a bit to find the stock line, but i got it. also, the '95 caprice lines need minor bending...at least the way i ran them they did.
thanks.

Minor bending? Look at the bends on the left side of this line. You have to completely straighten out the line, and get the fitting to point the opposite direction. All without kinking the line.

That is an impala SS pressure line. The Caprice LT1 , Baby LT1 and Impala SS line are the same (wouldn't make sense for them to be different. Essentially the same motor between the 4.3 and the 5.7 as far as accessory brackets are concerned.
