What did you guys do for your temp sensors?

Originally I had installed a temp sensor into the water pump and used that for my stock 83' gauge. Left the LS1 temp sensor installed next to cyclinder #1 and used that to control the fans and such (as you normally would on a LS1).

Well I have to replace the water pump and I'm curious how you guys did yours. I want to use an autometer gauge, but I am not sure if it will work off the PCM signal.

I don't really want to use the back head spot as it's to tight in there and would be a freaking pain to do.

Any input would be appreciated.

This is what I did.

I took a stock sensor, ground it down, threaded it, and put it in the head...which is exactly what you said you don't want to do.

So...no help from me.

Well if you guys use a non LS1 sensor, how are you telling the fans to kick on?
Cuz I can get an adapter for the temp sensor I showed in that pic to fit in the stock LS1 temp sensor hole. But then nothing would be wired to tell the fans when it is time to turn on.

The stock sensor is still in the driver's side head hooked to the ECM, the thirdgen sensor is in the pass head connected to my stock gauge

I just picked up a one wire temp sender from autozone and put it in the back of the passengers side head. I used an adapter because i couldnt find the exact thread size in the sender. Just ran that wire to my stock guage and it works great. Hooked up a scan tool to verify that it was corect and it was.

Dude, its not that tight....I still have my stock airbox, the ECM over there, sub wiring, etc....

I was able to get it threaded in with a minimum of coolant spillage. I was unable to find the adapter everyone is talking about so I just ground down the stock sensor and threaded it.

StevenK that is also a good idea. I bought the sensor from autozone but it is made by autometer. i will try to find the part number of it but it was like $7 just for the adapter.
