Re: lt1 swap

engine swap and "plug and play" don't really go hand in hand. you'll have to have someone custom build it to match the year of your donor car and the exact year/model of your car. There were many small changes over the years that have to be accounted for. And you will pay quite a bit for someone to do that work!

Re: lt1 swap

Here's just one vendor, Howell.

http://www.howellefi.com/customer/pages.php?pageid=4

Here's another, Hot Rod Lane.

http://www.hotrodlane.cc/

They make and or sell harnesses + ecm's.

Good luck

Along with those mentioned is www.speartech.com or www.painlessperformance.com they are essentially four wires to splice in..

Re: lt1 swap

in the lt1 swap guide this is what is says

"You will need a different fuel pump (electric). SLP's headers have worked for many people on LT1's. The painless wiring harness is highly recommended for ease of installation, it's part # PRF-60501 in summit and is $350, it specifies a reprogrammed prom. Hope this helps."

the only thing i can find on the number is a emission kit for 71$ i know that the posting is 7 years old mite have somethin to do with it. but i still cant find i harness that will plug into my 91 and control the 93 lt1

Re: lt1 swap

You won't, the painless kit is basically an LT1 harness that has the ends cut off to splice in, the Howell harness will be the closest thing to what you're looking for....but you're going to end up splicing some wiring in.

And yes, you'll have to change the fuel pump since your's is a TBI, it won't put out the fuel pressure needed to run the LT1.

Re: lt1 swap

This is what I am doing as well. 94 Camaro LT1 into a 1992 Camaro LO3. What wires need to be spliced to utilize the Howell harness?

Re: lt1 swap

You would be killing the engine, keep the LT1 like it is supposed to be, check out a couple of the stickies about the wiring in this forum and you should come out ok.

Re: lt1 swap

TPI on an LT1 would be defeating the purpose.

As for the harness, i used speartech, and you have to splice about 4-5 wires into the bulkhead connector, and a couple more under the dash. Very simple. You have to use the power and fan stuff from your old harness.

I knew nothing about electrical work when i took on that project, and i had 0 issues, aside from pluging stuff in the wrong sensor on the engine...

Re: lt1 swap

You can absolutley make the harness you have work. The reason i didnt is because a few of the wires were looking a little less than trustworthy and i was paranoid about losing my investments in a car fire. So i forked over some $$ for some peace of mind.

Like he said above look at the wiring for dummies sticky.

Re: lt1 swap

There are 4-5 connectors on your LT1 harness that you have to splice into your chassis harness. The wiring for dummy thread is describing the wires on each connector. You need to get power to 4-5 of the wires on those connectors. You can add a small fuse block or you can reuse many of the fuses already wired in your car (injector 1 & 2 for example). The remaining wires will be for ALDL, gauges, and fan/fuel pump relays.

It does seem a little daunting at first, but once you get started its not that bad. I just got on shbox.com and got the specific wiring connectors for the year of LT1 I have. Then I poured through the different wiring diagrams specific to my GTA and started taking notes in a spread sheet to make it easier when I started cutting and splicing.

I've never used a painless harness, but I'm guessing it would just eliminate the first step and give you some nice pretty marked wires that you would still have to research where and how to splice into your existing harness.

I like this one it's a little better layed out (to me anyway). There will be some more wires you will need to look over and see if you do/don't need to wire them in.
