LQ4 6.0 swap into third gen Camaro?

Hey, Im wondering what it would take to swap an LQ4 out of my 3/4 ton Silverado into a third gen Camaro, preferably an 87-90 IROC. As far as doing the swap is it similar to an LS1 swap? would I require basically the same things as I would for an LS1 swap, IE engine mounts and that sort of thing. I would have all accessories and what not from my truck. I would be, however looking to mount it to either a T56 or a built WC T5, instead of the 4l80E.

Can anyone point me to a list of things needed to do this swap?

I've seen a LQ4 swap here on TGO before, but....

The front mount accessories (for F-body accessories) all have to be swapped out to fit the front crossmember & chassis.

The LQ4 intake sticks up THROUGH the hood, meaning you'll need a big bulge on the hood or swap out for a LS1 intake.

Re: LQ4 6.0 swap into third gen Camaro?

i'm working on this swap right now, but haven't got real far. i got the tpi 5.0 out of the way, and i have the motor ready to mock up hopefully tonight or tomorrow. read the sticky again..... and again....... and again. everytime i read it i learn a little more and get a little more comfortable with what all needs to happen. i hope by tonight i know how much the oil pan hangs down by under the k-member. i left my k-member stock, and i plan to fabricate up brackets to retain the third gen a/c. also the intake not fitting has been shown in another thread, on a camaro. the throttle body sticks out a couple inches i think. search and search and read a lot, and it shouldn'e be too hard. good luck....

Re: LQ4 6.0 swap into third gen Camaro?

i meant the intake off the lq4. there was some discussion that the real issue was the alternator, but i htink i saw a pic somewhere of the lq4 intake and it wouldn't fit with the stock hood. i think i'm going with the ls6 intake. the lq4 tb was dbw anyway, ad i didn't want to mess with that

Resurrection. Hey guys, I have been talking with a gentleman from walter racecraft and he said that LQ4 oem intake will fit under the stock hit but you need to shave the intake a bit.
Can anyone confirm this?

Re: LQ4 6.0 swap into third gen Camaro?

I would be inclined to believe him, Matt is very knowledgeable and even sells poor man swap kits. He has helped me a few times with regards to a steering shaft and correct part numbers with oil pans and dip sticks. I just went with an LS6 intake for my LQ4 and it fits no issue. I don't believe they are too expensive either, and produce decent numbers. I am also unsure of the whole process to shave the intake. If its worth your time I would go with it.
Hope this helps.

Re: LQ4 6.0 swap into third gen Camaro?

Every swap is different depending on the mounts used and k-member. if the truck intake doesn't clear, the Dorman LS2 is a cheap substitute that is similar to the LS6 but has 4 bolt throttle body provisions.

I found a 5.3 engine and trans looking to swap into my 88 bird. Can someone tell me some of the bits and pieces I would need, I know I'll need the engine mounting brackets for sure.

Read the stickies at the top of the page, and then reread them again. Also, try not to hijack someones thread.
