Ls1 swap crazy idea?
Ok, so I decided to sell my Harley to get enough $$$$ to put an Ls1 in my car.Is that crazy?I will probably only be able to get around $5,000-$5,500 for the bike.I still need other stuff for the car so I am going to get a pt job for the winter.I still have a '07 CBR600RR to ride so its not like I am giving up riding completely.
I know that there is a lot involved in getting the engine itself so I am just looking for as many resources as possiable on where to start.
I have a good friend at a junkyard to keep an eye out for engines but I still have a lot to do to the car besides the swap.ANy ideas on how to do this in a cost efficent way?
I have already checked out all the sticky threads but Im just really excited about this and wanted to hear some stories from some of you that have done the swap.
My car currently has a rebuilt 350 with a 5 speed.

It's so crazy, we have a sub-forum to discuss it, and a sticky to tell how to do it.
Really crazy. . .
(BTW, this thread is in that sub-forum now...)

Re: Ls1 swap crazy idea?
Keep the Harley... Save up your money so you arent worried about having enough for the swap. The longer you wait, the easier it will be to pay for things...not to mention every year the LS1 motors get cheaper and cheaper. Of course the next best thing keeps coming out also...but LS1s will still be a great choice for a long time.
To be completely honest with you, and anyone else wanting to do this...if you are worried about having enough money to complete the project, you really should wait and save up some money. I PROMISE you its going to cost more than you plan, no matter what. Not to mention you are driving a modified vehicle now, so little things are going to crop up. You'll find the weak spots in your chassis and driveline in a hurry. It snow ***** a bit until you work the bugs out.
And youre talking about adding a turbo? Maybe buy the motor now, and slowly get parts to build the motor up for boost. But it sounds like you'll miss the harley, and Ide hate to hear that you sold the bike, and then ran out of money for the car, or lost interest in the swap or something.
What the guys said is true. Literally anything you need to know about the swap is here. In the stickies, random threads, my threads, etc. There really isnt anything that hasnt been covered. So do some homework. You'll probably get a really good idea of what to expect money wise also. Make a list and add up prices etc etc. It'll help ya a lot.
Good luck!
