LQ4 swap, with very specific questions

I am trying to configure a roadmap for my swap at this time.

Going to do the L92 Head swap, I only need one more.

The engine I received was a core, no accessories, just heads, block, internals, oil pan ect.

This is going into a 92z vert. I am keeping the built 700r4 ect.

Originall I wanted to go carb, but right now I think that it will not fit under the stock hood, unless I am crazy stupid. So it looks like some form of EFI for me.

My current questions are:

What is the best place to get OE F-car accessories? I am going to keep everything except A/C. Also, coils and coil packs

As for the EFI, I assume, LS1-6 or 2-3 intakes will work, but as far as witch ECM/wiring harnesses will work, I am unsure. I know I need on set for a Manual trans since I'll be running a non electrical trans.

The covers my true only questions.

Everything else is pretty straight forward, Before we move to install I want to have a roadmap and all needed major componants.

Scott

I will use this thread to publish my steps as we go.

Moving this to the LTX and LSX sub-forum.

Where did you get just one? They aren't that expensive new from GM.

What year is the LQ4? Most likely you'll need a flex plate spacer, or an LSx TH700R-4 converter.

ls1tech.com, eBay, racingjunk.com, craigslist.com.

Not with L92 heads. You need an L76 intake.

Any PCM can be programmed for this application.

You might want to check into VSS issues. 3rd & 4th gens used different pulse count standards. Programming will cover that, though.

An LS3 intake will also work. The differences between it and the L76 are basically cosmetic. Also, I read here that the L76 intake has been discontinued as a complete assembly new from GM and "replaced" by the LS3. Either intake should be available bare, though.

For future reference LS1/2/6 are all "cathedral" style intake ports. While L76/LS3 are rectangle ports; as are L92 heads.

I've never seen the LS3 "assembly" available. That post was 9 months old with no response.

The "assembly" would have DBW TB, anyway. That's fine if that's what you want, but 90% of swappers don't.

Re: LQ4 swap, with very specific questions

For the VSS you'll probably have to go ahead and install the 4L60E reluctor and sensor, after that you should be ok to go, not sure how well hooking the TV cable to a LSx throttle cable will go, do any of the LS3 aftermarket replacements include provisions for the TV cable ?

Re: LQ4 swap, with very specific questions

A few companies offer a bracket to bolt on the TB cam for the TV stud. That part is simple. Lockup must be controlled either manually via switch or by vacuum like the older cars did

LS3 intake assembly, part # 12610434, pages 81,89, & 222 of GMPP catalog. I don't know if that necessarily means that it's "available," but it's there. Couldn't get it to come up right on GM Parts Direct, though.

I know the DBW TB is not desirable as far as most swappers are concerned. I was not advocating the purchase of an intake "assembly" over a bare + separate components. I was just noting some information that I came across...

A TGO member (3.1EyeCandy) was considering doing an LSx swap w/ a 700R4 and threw this out there as to what he was going to do for TCC lock-up. He eventually ended up going with a 4L60E though. Here's his build thread if you're interested.

Re: LQ4 swap, with very specific questions

Keep in mind that there are a lot of guys buying 2010 Camaros and modding them, so LS3 intakes with rails & injectors aren't hard to find. There's always a lot on ebay, and scanning the classifieds of various message boards will turn up plenty.
