Mixing truck and auto LSx coils
Can you see any problem mixing coils on an engine? In 3rd gens with AC, you want truck coils on the passenger side. On the driver side, you want the auto coils to stay out of the way of the LS1/6 fuel rail fitting.
I don't know what it might be, but would there be a problem having both on one engine? You'd have slightly different inductance (I assume), and slightly different length spark plug wires.

I don't think it would matter electrically. The PCM commands when a coil should fire, that's it.

That's what I assumed, but didn't want this to be one of those "gotchas" that you hadn't thought through.

The subject might be a little over my head but the info might be useful to you. IIRC, he goes over some of the differences in the coils themselves.

They require a different connector at the coil itself. The large white inline connector is the same for both styles. If you swap the whole bank youll have no problems
Be aware the plug wires are different lengths for each as well even though you can still use them

I would be changing the complete bank. I have truck coils on the LS1/T56 swap in Berlinetta #2, which is why I knew of the issues. What I would do is put auto coils from the "new" LS1/4L60E that I'll be picking up on the driver side, and truck coils on the passenger side (both cars have AC).
It might look a little weird to the trained eye (and, no, I will NOT be putting coil covers on), but what I had to do to the truck coil to clear the fuel fitting looks a little weird, anyway.
I'll have to watch the whole video when I have time.

'99-up have issues with that.
'98 owners have their own set of issues. . .

Re: Mixing truck and auto LSx coils
I bent the fuel rail on the driver side and put a 90* fitting on it and it clears nicely. I'm using truck coils on both sides. It was really easy to bend the rail if you want to try that instead.

I relocated the coil on the bracket and bent the fuel line upwards.
I prefer the look of the LS1 coils on that side.

Not seriously. I have both complete engines, so unless the wires are bad, I won't need to buy new ones. I like the idea of short spark plug wires as well.
